Raising Honey Bee's

Does anyone here raise honey bee's?I am thinking of starting a new hobby and looking for some good do's and dont's.

Invest in one of the 10' x 10' chain link enclosures for dogs and put the hives inside of that and about 3' to 4' outside of that put an electric fence.Some one I know had a new elec. fence device meant for cows and a 400 -500 lb. bear charged right threw it. and had a feast.

A fence is a good idea.Wouldn't what Pooh Bear eating my honey unless it was bear season lol!

Bee's cost $105.00 for 3 lbs and starter kit another 200.00.I will see how I do,1 hive will produce 50-100lbs of honey per year.I love honey

Dom.... if your good with a tape and saw there are plans on line on how to build your own hives...They say it's best to have at least two hives...there are also many really good DIY honey extractor plans out there...I've been researching this for a long time...just haven't pulled the trigger on it yet....but we eat a lot of honeyand have a lot of fruit trees and bushes...
