Ricpac
I know it is illegal to bait in NY. My question is I recently got married and in the marriage apparently the wife's family has about 30 acres of unused land up in Sullivan county. We are planning to go check it out next weekend. I would like to put a trail camera up and see if I can get an inventory pic. My question is I wanted to drop something like monster raxx or something so I could get pictures. Would it be illegal to do this, even if it isn't hunting season yet? What would be a better option?
sits in trees
Im not going to ask you about what you do on your own family's land. Your land your business.
thphm
Why not just look for well used trails and put a camera on them.No antlers on the deer now anyway,so if there are any it is going to be pretty hard to tell what they are if there are any.Turkey season is coming up why not just go out and do some calling and see if you get any responce to the calls. Pygmy
The short answer is YES, it is illegal.
phade
No sense in inventorying any time between now and end of turkey season. Different if you are just putting it up to "see" what is out there or for turkey. Mineral licks, corn, trophy rocks, Monster Raxx, etc. are all illegal. There is an ongoing "issue" in the courts that have placed the feeding law into question as it is currently written. Off record statements appear to show that people will not be ticketed for feeding deer until the law is re-written. A court downstate struck down a case that cited the law and the DEC is gun-shy to issue tickets until it is adapted.
