Did a test run...

So every opening day I have some stupid problem or another. I decided to do a test run today and get it out of the way...have some tips as well.

4am and the alarm went off and woke me...showered the night before so I'd be out the door by 4:30...kinda warm but deceiving so I put on a camo base layer and then camo sweats and a hoodie...had fanny pack loaded with water and fruit...Cell on MUTE...Get out the door and it looks like a cloudy/sunny  day...the moon has the woods lit up..I could see all the branches in the tree tops......should be better by opener...I wore the wrong boots...could they have made more noise? doubtful...just as I hit the blind I spook a couple of deer..Oh ya you could have heard them 2miles away...Get set up and at 5: 30 gobbling...100yrs out..... this went on for an hour and at 6:30 I hear the hens cackling maybe 200ft from the Tom and in his general area....I waited until 8:30 and nothing...his last gobble had him moving away from me and the last hen sounds...

So tip..It hasn't rained here so wow... loud...wear turkey boots or rubber boots ...even though it may feel warm....make sure you have some layer to your clothes as the sun came up the temps dropped and a breeze made it pretty cool...don't for get the hard candies or cough drops..low humidity ..of course the ole dry throat cough tried it's best to drive me crazy...Looks like the chair blind comes out and gets aired out...even though there was turkey sign all over the area around the blind..Do they have to scratch all the twigs into my paths?....lol

I forgot the video camera....Will have to remember to pack the slate calls and strikers...didn't need calls today...just a listening session...Think the deer snorting kept them out of the area...need to take pain killers before leaving to stave off the aches and pains from sitting still that long...I'm all cramped up...back and leg muscles...other than that and the boots...not bad for me...lol

What are turkey boots?

I'm not a blind hunter, I move from spot to spot like a hen might do.  Sitting in a ground blind for more than 20 minutes while hunting turkey and I'd be looking for a new hobby........

I usually bring a water bottle with me as some of my hunts may be uphill/down hill and take me until noon time or so.

Cough drops or hard candy are a good idea.

Good luck!

I have 12 blinds scattered around the property and the chair blind keeps me mobile as well as the fold up Jake blind...Turkey boots have a softer sole to them... more sneaker like...at least that's what I look for...plus waterproof ..the traction on the camo boots I wore was like an echo chamber to every stone I walked on and twig I stepped on...They just tend to be quieter
