"Whats On Your Mind" Option

Curious... When you click on your name in the upper right hand corner, and the drop down box appears, what is the "Whats On Your Mind" box for and where does it post your comment to?? Always wondered, but have never tried it.   Anyone use it?

If you type whats on your mind - when someone clicks on your avatar to the right it shows a note.
