Tree Markings??

My land is surrounded by state forest.  There has been some logging being done in the area since I've owned my property.  This weekend, I was scouting and noticed loads of fresh paint markings on the trees adjacent to my property.  Bright orange slash marks and x's on most of the trees.  I'm assuming they were marked for a reason.  Does this mean that the area is about to be logged?

I have similar markings on the state land that borders my property. Some have been painted for as long as I have lived there. They put fresh paint down during last years hunting season. I have no clue as to what their plans are.

Yes I'd think so.  The slash is a tree they'll take, the x is one to drop and leave.  (I think!!) 

 

Watch the property lines, sometimes they tend to wander.....................

I will keep an eye to make sure that they don't wander onto my land.  But, so far they seem to be okay.  I wonder if there's any way to find out what the plans are as far as when the area will be logged.  They must have a reason for marking all those trees.

The X on a tree means when they log it they are cutting the tree and not paying for it. The X usually means it is a tree with little to no value, and they are doing their forestry job by removing it.
