nybuckboy
Yeah... I said I will throw caution to the wind as I have not seen too much thus far this season. I got in the woods a bit late and actually got all settled in the stand (bow up, arrow nocked and harness on), looked at the time and it was 6:36. Before I climbed into the stand I hung 2 Wildlife Research Estrous gold leafs about 10 yards to the left and right of the stand and about 15 yards out. At 6:55 I heard a snap and a deer was making an appearance thru the thick stuff at a good clip. He stopped (big spike) and had his head up and lips curled and was downwind and sniffing this leaf about 10 feet away. He hung out for about 2 minutes and disappeared. At 7:40 another buck (big tall crotch horn) bounded in to the leaf for a brief moment and then looked around and cut across my shooting lanes and was gone. I passed on both of them. At 8 another was coming toward me at a slow poke walk directly out in front of me but not downwind of the leafs. I thought it was a doe but looked thru the glass and it was little spike. He made his way by but out of the wind of the leaf so I know that was not the reason he came along. I did not see any more deer and left at 11:30. Interesting? gjs4
Does have been coming into estrus since september- just not many....but immature deer are very inquisative...thats why the usually fall to scents....a big guy or two may die by them but theyre just another poke and hope product for the camo masses... Adkhunter1590
I wasn't seeing anything yesterday afternoon so I decided to get down early and take a little walk. Would take a few steps and stop and watch for 5 mins or so. I made it about 150 yards and saw a flash on the ridge side in front of me. I kneeled down and watched as a small buck (maybe a 4 pointer? Not to sure he was moving to fast and about 100 yards away) chased 5 does all around. He was running hard too. The does wanted nothing to do with him lol. Was entertaining to watch for awhile at least. But it shows that the rut is coming! On another note I'm sitting in my car waiting to see if this "big buck" my father in law keeps telling me about comes out by his house every morning. I don't have a stand or anything here as there isn't much land at all but he tells me everyday this buck comes out to eat off his apple and pear trees. Figured I'd grab a cup of coffee and just sit here and see if such a buck exists
