Bear Spring Mountain WMA

I haven't hunted NY in 25 years. I have a place near Downsville that I use for fishing. Does anyone hunt or have any info on Bear Spring Mountain WMA? Hunting pressure? Clowns? etc.

Is very heavily hunted and deer are highly pressured. If you see a deer you are lucky let alone a legal buck due to antler restriction.  Is full of clowns who think the whole mountain is theirs. Have hunted there about 4 years ago. No luck and seen more hunters than deer.  A better idea would be to check on DEP website and get a permit to hunt NYC watershed properties.

Easier to find gold or oil than to find pheasants at Bear Spring !!!!

bow hunted there last year seen pheastants alot of deer sign [ no deer] it simmed like i was the  only  hunting i hunted the west brook by the camp ground

Full of Clowns. Hunted there many years until i got my own piece of land. If you want to run the risk of getting shot and see no deer its the place to go. Lol

However, if you like small game it is a great place for grouse hunting and not many hunters in the woods early in the season.

The DEC did stocking on with pheasants a few years ago. Believe they still do in fall. Haven't hunted them there since 2008. With good couple dogs should flush a few birds up. As for grouse its pretty full of them.
