Five Seasons
You big buck guys can go at it with each other all you want. I have always said that their is a heck of a lot of ugliness when it comes to trophy hunting, and now the internet brings just another element into it. This ugliness is one big reason I have never been a big fan of those who obsess over antlers. It's just not important, and the only people big antlers will impress are others who are obsessed by them in the same way, and then things quickly turn into jealousy, accusations, vendettas, etc., etc. Not my cup of tea, for sure. Hell, I killed the biggest buck I ever got in NYS the day after Thanksgiving this season. A very respectable deer actually. Was I happy? Yes, sort of, but no more happy than with any other deer I am lucky enough to take. Don't care to post pictures on the internet neither for the whole world to see. Just not that important in the scheme of things. there is indeed some ugliness. I love to hunt. It's my passion. I'm a horn hunter. Wont deny it. I love venison and will be sure to fill my freezer, but I'm after horns. The meat is always first, but the trophy for me is the hunt/experience and yes the horns on the wall. I suppose I'm lucky because the private land I hunt is deeded in my name or a family members name and I'm not dealing with others trying to "creep" into my territory. I would say that if I had "permissions" I would indeed be leary of who and where I shared my stories with. I am even careful with facebook because I am friends with a few neighbors. The bonus is that I can discuss with them what they've seen and I give it back in return. My cousin posts a lot of her nice bucks on facebook in 7J. We hunt a spot there that is easily trespassed on and it's a small town. I don't blame her for posting, but it does leave me nervous some times. Five Seasons
I believe the person who first documented the road doesn't know the hunter directly at all. Sometimes, word gets out, travels, and it's beyond your sphere of influence. I doubt the hunter expected his road of kill to go public. Maybe shame on him to a degree, but I still feel for him being socked out of left field with that. It's just one of many prime examples of comments on Joe's site. The comments need controlling to a degree to maintain integrity of his site; otherwise, there's a chance people won't want to submit them to him in fear of being moved in on (more than there is now). but if word got out? that's still the hunter who started it. If you cant trust your friends not to share the picture message with others, you shouldn't send it. Or, as Antler pointed out, maybe he doesn't care. And maybe he doesn't care now, but will next year? Honestly, some times an area will produce that "once in a lifetime buck" and the rest of the deer are nothing special. But sometimes you do have nice large well managed areas that harbor numerous big bucks. One place we hunt has had a few monsters, but they only show up every few years. The rest are nice bucks, but no book bucks.
Doewhacker
We let nothing out, sightings, pics, stories, locations, amount we kill...nothing. Sometimes we let something out well after the fact. Im talking wife's face book, kids on the bus, talk at a dinner...kind of a fun game. Geno C
I did the same thing for a member once but all through PM's (Geno), I guess you never thought of that tactic? What tactic? Jog my memory... Just saw this but in the middle of setting something up at the house. If your talking about giving another member a heads up on the amount of info he gave up and you want to tell him via Pm to protect him and his spot then yes. PM is a lot better the. Blowing a guus spot up on an open forum. I don't remember our insodent tho doe? I wonder if it's about what I think it is lol The club? Geno C
I have seen guys show maps of kills and layouts of their areas. If someone posts an aerial and there is a general connection to the area that I can find, I bet with in 10 minutes I can find that spot MOST of the time. I have looked at hundreds of properties I was going to buy before I bought and sold my last one and most of the agents didn't provide and aerial but provided enough for me to find it within minutes. I've mastered that... But a guy in a pic with a deer I'd be stumped unless I walked that ground before of there is significant info revealing in that photo. Each hunter has the option to post as little or as much or even not at all. I'll tell you what tho, I've hunted with guys who are dead secret and get mad at any and every little info talked about regarding hunting or even a spot. I've seen a lot end in fights over stupid stuff because guys are PARANOID. If you have to look over your shoulder when you hunt somethings not right. I have some great spots, spots I wouldn't want to give up but with all I post and say no one knows where I am. My own dad sticks his questions in here n there but I never reveal anything... I give a bum town or Answer with minimum info. Everyone has a choice, some choose to talk on egg shells and always have a constant fear about their spot. And others give out to much info making it easy for some. Eitherway, things can be posted if in the right fashion where a guy doesn't have to loose sleep at night over it. Because if he's doing the right thing and is a worry wort, you know he is having panic attacks on what his buddies are revealing when he's not around. This sport is about making memories and having fun. At the end of the day the hunter can reveal what's comfortable for him. Showing a photo and saying a county I see no harm... Your always going to have idiots say stuff. Is that road even true??? Who cares its none of our spots... Let that hunter get mad over it if he chooses so. The way I see it any big buck taken will be in the like light in any county in any town! If someone is so scared then let that 160" walk and shoot that 100" ER Otherwise, take the like light that come with that buck and smile. Big deer get shot out here all the time by me, I don't even hear about half of them and I'm well connected. I have a buddy who I know, not even good friends with and he shot a 160" monter 2 seasons ago. I know his exact spot because he happen to tell me, however I'm not the type to go and do that to someone, it's just not me. I know he put work into that area and it's not mine to go. I have my own spots... But there are guys who will tho.
Geno C
Yea waaaayyy back then, I pm'ed you to becarefull giving out too much info. I think you damn near gave up stand sites even..lol No! Lol I never would have done that but yes your right you did give me a heads up. I think because it was the first big buck I had ever encountered like that and I was so pumped that I didn't even think about what you said. I did take down the info but left the pics I beleive after you said that.
