That's because melatonin helps you stay asleep...it doesn't help you fall asleep. My problem is that I have trouble falling asleep but once I do, I'm knocked out. A friend of mine takes it. The bottle recommends a really low dosage. That's just to really cover the butts. My buddy checked with his doctor and the doctor is okay with him taking twice the amount that's recommended on the bottle and he hasn't had trouble sleeping since.
