Fletch
I am a bit anti zoo. I realize for some animals it is necessary to maintain populations and it is neat for kids and adults to see animals they may never see. I just hate seeing things in cages. As for the giraffe, I see no issue with it and the meat was used well. They could have maybe not done it in front of kids. But then again, mine would understand. They understand animals die and other animals and us eat them. In the wild I am sure big cats eat giraffe! G-Man
I would of liked to of seen this, we had an elephant die at buffalo zoo some years ago and i remeber butchering it with stone knives to further reserch at a paleonological site near batavia. meat was fed to lions and other cats as well. Euthenazing surplus animal is common (think dogs and cats) to make it public is not a big deal. The people against this should open their eyes to real life!! growalot
Here's the problem I have...this is with if's for I don't know.. If ..being 18 mos old and he was raised in the public eye...it was wrong..... ppl take their kids to the zoo sometimes weekly...these animals are viewed almost like pets...they are named allowed to be fed treats in some places....if in the breeding program they knew at birth he was going to be culled...do it then..or raise him to be fed to the cats ...but out of sight.... Would you find it OK if puppy mills opened their doors for schools to come in and see the pretty puppies and then one day say..... hey we have too many.... they have to go...shoot them and bring in a college biology class to dissect them infront of the kids?..I'm thinking not...JMO
Elmo
I agree with grow. Normally, I would not have a problem with this. Kids dissect frogs all the time in class. The issue is that "lack of space" was not a completely viable excuse since someone offered over $750,000 to find a suitable new home for the animal. ants
Hell…..they couldn't have had him snipped or transferred him to another zoo?
