Right now, there is no charge to the customer for a background check but when the troopers take over, it will cost $9 for a new gun purchase and $2.50 any time you want to buy ammunition for that gun or any other gun you might already own.

This is quite common in many Democrat controlled states.  Some even classify it as a "service" done for you.  When they do that, they can even charge tax on it.  NJ for example, taxes the NICS checks fee as a sale item, adding sales tax to the cost.  That is like charging sales tax on your car inspection, which they don't do.

Keep in mind these costs can be increased at any time, to any amount the state decides to charge.

Voting for Democrats is tantamount to voting for your own demise.

The NYS Police have sent letters to all ammo sellers or keepers of ammunition that the state is a point of contact for background checks on firearms and ammunition beginning September 13th as previously reported. I found mine in my mailbox today after being alerted by a member in another site. 

I strongly suggest that all gun owners, sportsman, hunters and shooters make arrangements to have a six months supply of ammo for hunting, training, competition, plinking and self defense before this is implemented. As with any new system there will be delays and confusion. 

And it goes without saying if you had a gun purchase in mind now would be the time.

The system is facing “massive wait times.” One has to wonder if gun control advocates view this as a positive part of the law.

In New York, background checks are now required to buy ammunition, and background check requests will go through the state police instead of the FBI, possibly adding a delay in purchases. Fees are also being implemented to pay for the background checks– $9 on firearm purchases and $2.50 for ammo.

Vann says the rollout of the rules this week resulted in massive wait times.

The system is also producing false positives.

“The system isn’t working — they’re making mistakes,” said Tom King, executive director of the state Rifle and Pistol Association.

King said he was denied over the weekend when he filed an application for a background check to purchase .410 shotgun shells in Rensselaer County.

A person has 30 days to appeal if State Police deny the attempted sale, and police have 30 days to respond and explain the reason for the denial. Additional appeals are filed with the state attorney general’s office. . . .
