Wondering if anyone knows of any timber companies in the central NY area that lease land for hunting.  I am interested in looking to lease land next year but really have no idea where to begin.  I have heard that there are some large timber companies in the area that might be good to lease from but I havnt been able to find any

Ditto what Burt said. We lease through Cotton Hanlon and Bob O'Brien is a stand up guy. They have a lot of different size properties but most are souther tier and PA. I think Cortland and Ithaca is about as far north as they come. with lease and insurance it will run you about $18 an acre each year. 3 year leases

I actually e-mailed Bob, and his price per acre was over $18...actually into the $20s.

The price lowered as the acreage increased, but tracts 200 and less were over $20 per acre.

The must have had a tax increase. we are on year into our second 3 year lease and oue is 2,050 for 110 acres. I know they basically pass the tax increases through on renewals. I looked at some other timber companies but few allowed the building of cabins so it was worth the few extra bucks for us.

How do you manage heat, showers/toiletries, etc.?

You are allowed 400 sf. they usually let you build after 2 years there. our heat is a wood stove and we bring in our drinking water. I am sending you a PM to explain some of how we did things so I don't bore everyone.

I believe they still have land up this way which is about 2.5hrs north of cortland

I saw that one already, acctualy found it from serching the posts on this site.  I e-mailed him and as of right now ther are not many available near me.  I was wondering if anyone new of any other ones in the area that I could contact.

I could have used blocks , timbers or concrete. Figured concrete was the way to go. It was a challenge since we are back on a logging ROW a mile off the paved road.

Emtorn- there is another timber company that has property right near mine. I cant remember the name. I can look on the tree signs next time I am down. I don't know of any in the CNY area. Timber leases were big up north but I think those companies hae backed off on those leases now or got really expensive because they were such big blocks of property. i will keep my eyes open

google them. I am betting almost any timber company does the same thing. I know of one other but they are mostly south western NY and PA. Region 9 land I think

How many members do you guys take and do you have a cabin? We only have 110 acres but sets against 2500 of state land
