Paula
You have nice looking dogs, how long did it take you to get the 3?

hunter49
Nice job, what are you shooting them with, shot guns or rifles ? Are the yotes out far in front of the dogs or are the dogs right on them? Just wondering.
HOUNDS77
Need to becareful because the dogs are usually right on them. We use shotguns or .22 mag. Nothing bigger.
Pygmy
What size shot do you favor and what is a good sure kill range for your shotgun ? I realize that this will vary from gun to gun, but what is your personal gun/load combo ?
HOUNDS77
I use just a simple rem 870 express mag with a turkey choke. I shoot 3 inch 00 or #4 buck. 30-50 yards.

Have you ever tried the specialty loads like the Hevi-Shot "Dead Coyote" ? Did you pattern different chokes/loads, or just use what you've got ? I'm guessing that with those long legged walkers, you don't necessarily have to kill the critter outright, just slow him down enough for the dogs to get him.. I have never run coyotes with hounds, but years ago ( pre-coyote days here in the southern tier) I did quite a bit of fox hunting with hounds. There are quite a few guys around here now running hounds for 'yotes now..Sounds like lots of fun to me.
HOUNDS77
I never patterned it. I know it knocks the crap out of turkeys. My buddies are surprised how far I can roll them with that gun.
Pygmy
Sounds like a good example of " It it works, don't FIX it "...hehehe..
HOUNDS77
I love running fox. Problem is snow gets too deep here and they hole up quick.
GR HUNTER
How much land do you need to run hounds on yotes? I would think neighbors and roads would be an issue.

The yote was about 60-70- yds away I found out after I went to where I shot from. The shot spread was pretty wide & spaced apart at that distance , needless to say that yote is still running, man do they take off after the missed shot!! lol
deerpassion
Man, I need to come do a little night mission in your neck of the woods! Striking out so far this year on a couple different state lands...

Most of the land around here are deer hunters and farmers who like dead coyotes.
