Just in New York or nationwide? Would be nice to have a fourth HuntingNY turkey contest. Isn't it to the southern people advantage to have a nationwide contest? This is why I like a New York Sate contest.
growalot
That is probably true...but there are no prizes involved. It is mainly a show and tell with lots of congrats at the end. Just like the deer contest. Though that one team's northern to southern hunters and is a way for members to get to know one another. There are ways to increase your points though..giving northerners a better chance...mentoring youth hunters that tag..and calling for other hunters. Most here may not get this, but last year the first Bird entered was really something. 13 in. Beard....1 3/4 in. spurs if I recall. No one else entered their Bird...with calling and youth another may have won...but I think it was a unspoken respect for such a great Bird and hunt. We all showed our birds..just didn't enter them..That unspoken group sign of respect is why decided to help out with site contests there. Lawdwaz
1.75" spurs are KILLER. Beards and weight don't mean much too me............but those spurs are the GRAIL. Didn't WNYBowhunter (I think that is his handle) kill something like that last year??
growalot
I don't know..lots of great birds were taken though..even my biggest Bird was my best at 12" beard with 1" spurs. I've never gotten past 1" spurs...
Lawdwaz
IIRC my longest beard is 11.50" ......I'd have to check the spurs but I think 1 3/8" on them or was it 1 5/8" (pretty substantial difference I know!!)
