Whether you care about electronic cigarettes or not......

So basically, they want to put a tobacco tax on batteries which is all an e-cigg really is.

As for the juice, something tells me they'll have no problem taxing nicotine free liquids the same as nic based.

It was never a mystery to me why government was up in arms over the e-ciggs.

Big Brother and Big Tobacco can kiss my BUTT!

I get vape mail 2x's a week,lol

Wow that's a great vid. Count me as one who used ecigs to quit... Pack a day for 8 years. Then a 6 months converting to full time vaping....a solid year of gaping and I've been clean since January 1st...

Its all about the Benjamin's. Yet another prime example of the bottom line over the citizens

The original campaign against smoking was always meant to be big lawsuits that would get the states big money.  It never had anything to do with the smokers or their health.

The same tactic was tried against gun manufacturers during the Clinton presidency.  Fortunately the courts told them to pound salt.

So, am I the only one who wonders why cigarettes are still legal? Think about it, Marijuana is deemed a public health risk, so they just flat outlawed it. But for some reason when it comes to tobacco, they never did muster up the courage to simply declare it a controlled substance and make it illegal to own/use.

I don't care which side of the illegality of "controlled substances" you are on, But my comment is more about the inconsistency. Because to me inconsistency is generally the hallmark of hidden agendas. Look for the money trail ....eh?

Secondly, When did it become the province of our government to use taxation, and public service advertisements, and pitting one segment of the citizenry against he other and other forms of behavioral modification as legitimate ways to create law. Does anyone else worry about how these techniques could be used against any activity that they choose without going through legitimate lawmaking procedures?

It would appear that e-cigarettes are just the next target to get this backdoor law-making treatment. Personally, I could care less about any of these products, but the procedures that everyone seems to readily and eagerly accept have potential to be used on anything they get it in their minds that we shouldn't have. Legal processes be damned. If you can convince the public that something is evil (perhaps even guns), they have devised a pretty darned effective way around the system and we all sit around and cheer all that until it is our ox that gets gored.

They have simply been biding their time in terms of how the can legitimately introduce, control and tax Mary-jane. The Medical aspect has allowed this to happen. Growers are already paying 10 grand just to apply for a license to grow medical marijuana.

That was exactly my point with the post Doc: no matter how anyone feels about the specific subject matter, people should be very concerned about the way the government is dealing with these issues, and the real reasons why their choosing to deal with them at all.

And to directly answer your question: cigarettes are legal because the state and federal governments have figured out a way to profit from that legality and no one has been able to stand up and say "The Emperor has no clothes". And to a lesser extent the legality provides them with a sense of control. As long as they can feel like their running the show, and that they can make money with it, they don't really care what people do to themselves or to each other. It's not a benevolent system.
