most of the time the Bears want to get away from you but I did have one who saw my dog and wanted to make lunch out of it and he stood his ground even as I yelled at him and in New York you can legally shoot them shoot them during deer season but he stood me down and finally ran off I did not want to show him too much work for me!!

bears freak me out, city kid what can I say.

I just keep bear spray at the ready and one of those mini fog horns in my pocket. and always keep my hand free.

never seen one in the woods though. course when im camping I keep my dogs around and always try to remember to walk upwind. oddly enough when im hunting I never think of them till I see sign

lol .... From what I have read, it seems like dogs provoke more bear attacks than what they deter. Remember that old saying about always having someone around that you can out-run? Well apparently dogs have that philosophy too, after they go pick a fight with a bear. When that dog goes whipping by your pant leg and disappears into the woods, that only leaves you standing there with a  pissed-off bear......lol.

Ticks and mosquitoes. That's all I'm worried about.

Ticks are #1 on my list.....quite honestly bear never cross my mind as a danger while I'm out hunting.........can't say the same about those little crawlers.
