Do turkeys peck holes in the ground?

Hey I have a question about turkey sign. Do they peck holes in the ground when they are looking for bugs and food? I found an area with a feather, a shotgun shell, and a bunch of holes in the dirt. The diameter of the holes were no larger than that of a dime and there was a good amount of 'em too. The shell was rusted and seemed old. Thanks a lot

As far as I know they they scratch the ground never heard of the making a hole,but I guess it does make sense if they are going for something in the dirt their beeck would make a small hole..

Don't think this is turkey sign. Have no idea what you found though.  The feather was probably there in coincidence of the rusty shotgun hull.

New one on me. I have seen tons of turkey scratchings and never seen any holes. Could be turkeys scratching over existing sites where bugs or critters have been working.

It could possible be where the guy put his blind or decoys.
