G-Man
I have a roosting area that has been quiet all year, but bird have been quite so in decided to go sit and see what I could, the last 2 mornings, but have been greeted with no turkey sightings,or soundings, I have seen a bird both mornings, a bald eagle sitting in the same tree both mornings. Do you think the bald eagless has caused the birds to leave this area? It has bee n used non stop for 23 years, and has always been a productive area. it's not like I can get the bald eagle to vacate the area..... maytom
Like you, all my spots have been very silent up to this point as well. Heading back out again Tues thru Thursday this week. Hopefully by now, they want to play?
Curmudgeon
Bald Eagles make prey species nervous even if they aren't a threat. Same with Osprey and Turkey Vultures. The prey species see a large bird that looks predatory and react accordingly. It's profiling plain and simple. Where is the ACLU when you need them?
growalot
Yes especially if you have a suitable nesting area for the Eagle which would really not be good for your hunting...

wooly
Could be the eagle spooked them off traditional roosting areas. OR, it could simply be like my area where they are not roosting traditionally with no outside eagle interference. I'm experiencing the same thing here in 9H, but nothing obvious is jumping out at me that would influence a roosting area change from this year to the last 30 or so.
