Have a upcoming early rifle season , i might just jump the gun and by a new one, thinking of a 45 - 70

Has anyone ever shot a lever action 45 - 70 , just wondering how they kick. I had at one time a Ruger #1 in 45 - 70 but it as not as light as a lever action rifle.

I had a Marlin 45-70 Guide Gun lever action, the kick was very manageable, especially when wearing either a recoil pad or one's hunting jacket Beware however of the cost of ammo, close to $50 a box at my local Gander Mountain, which is why I recently traded it for a much cheaper to shoot Browning A-Bolt in 30-06. The price of the ammo is far more painful then the recoil of the gun.
