last plots...

Recommended Posts

I'm tilling up the last WW/clover plots today...the ground is rock hard....I had tried discing 2 wks ago but it came up in big chunks and wasn't discing well...they are small trail plots and really need the tiller...All the rain has skirted us and it is bone dry out there...

Anywhoo... I got most of it done yesterday and ran out of gas... going down this morning and planting..they are calling for storms this afternoon..I hope ... I put PT in with my last WW planting and even though dry it's growing well ...whats the latest you've planted PT?

all I planted ...with fertilizer it short and yellowing the Daikon I planted in the wet area is stunted ..but the wet area has been dry and cracked open for 2 wks now...the PT in the "weed field" looks the best...the weeds for what ever reason is holding in the moisture more than using it up they are dark green and lush...the lane way has 3 zones moist ,average and rocky dry...you can clearly see the difference in the green up and filling in...The moist area has clover and PT filling in between the WW like a carpet

Four years ago really sold me on those Daikons. I just can't say enough good about them. The last couple late summers , was just to dry here. They came up spotty and didn.t have enough moisture to let the chemical fertilizer do it's job. This season has been nearly as perfect and it can get. A nice dark rich nearly blue color shows in all late summer plantings. What I'm looking for now The DEC has changed my motives for deer drawing. , Now I still want to feed, but also to draw doe in for picture buck breeding purposes. We always get early breeds coming in, and I hope to recover some nice pics of the action. Since we can't shoot deer here till after mid October, Might as well shoot'em other ways.

Now what...I had rain in the forecast this morning...now zero...I am in taking a bean snipping break because tiller was hot and my hands are blistered...hard pan down there and I have had to go over it 2x's even with the previous discing...dang my hands are beet red and puffing up...and no ..I just can not wear work gloves never been able to,don't ask...

So it's now saying no rain until the 10th.... next Thursday. ... Do I plant and hope the dew from humidity does the trick or hold off.. the turkey will have a field day but I do not want to have to work this again...

I went down and heavily seeded one 200 foot plot...and hand raked it in...had to leave for in this heat and humidity and having been in it all day the blk flies (little house type fly) found me and they BITE!...of course by then I probably smelled dead...I will go down and finish seeding the other two plots I tilled up tomorrow...then top seed with PT and clovers... I thought on the lack of water and it occurred to me...I have a tank sprayer!....Duh...I'll just wet everything down once I get it planted...need to go down and water some trees any how....Well off to feed and water the chickens again then take a cool soak in the tub ...I think I saw some turkey vultures circling.... :heat:;)

So I got those last plots I hand tilled up seeded and raked in...the ground is so dry and it is so hot that I fear I'm loosing plots...the WW looks good in most places but the clover has come up and is wilting...the turnips are all wilted as well... The ground is cracked and hard as rock....I do not feel safe drawing enough water from the well to attempt a watering...though I may wet these new areas down ...start praying for rain for us...the last several storms just skirted us

I think you may be getting the storms I keep hearing but never see....it is just way too dry here...though hey it was pretty good all summer well spaced storms...trees in Dansville are dying and here as well...lost a lot of the younger maple on our place...not just leaf drop but dried up trunks.Walking the ground is like walking on concrete now...even in the woods...60% rain went to zero in and hour yesterday. 80 & 90% for Wednesday & Thursday...praying for it now...
