Your right with one thing to remember...I live here and know the people that live here.I also did say I hoped it was coyote.I RARELY HEAR SHOTS FROM THERE.That said there are more than a couple of land owners in this area that feel ...their land, their food. How to describe...this area is as close to the stereo typical "Appalachian" mind set as you can see in the Finger lakes. That statement also is easily viewed during town meetings When they openly comment on home grown verses the Transplants..You can live here 50 yrs kids be born here and always be a transplant....lol A whole different view on many things,so many know game is shot out of season, I know at least one ECO did.His comment,a loosing battle when they are either related to or in business with the local justice. "Tired of walking out made to feel like an ass for doing my job". Why one ECO openly said "you know Chris they're just going to lie anyways"

So now odd single gun shots,2am. No season gun shots...etc...ect I just hope it'S something other than what, we that live here, know it probably is.

BTW most of you probably don't get this...We have shooting here every day throughout the day and lots at night...So when there are the unusual ones,It is noticeable.

Lets hope the scope stays tight then... ;)BTW I know I've mentioned...the only "sting" operations I've known the DEC to do out this way, is the turkey one. In fact one of the people caught one year lives just 4 houses down from the neighbor I heard the shot off of...His mother was all upset...all his partner in crimes fault...the other  was on private land where the wife unknowingly went to one of the local feed stores and discussed the "big bag of corn" her husband and son use during turkey and how well it works... They just put it on the trail and slice open the bag" That is just 1 3/4m from me. Both were charged. I actually told her, You do know that's illegal right, not a clue. Apparently the husband and son were clueless too. I didn't know exactly where they lived nor her name....but one of the other people apparently did.

From the news on the father/ son  a fine for hunting turkey over bait and for the kids shooting from a motorized vehicle ,over a road. Fines. those guys they got with their turkey decoy off a back road not far from us. The other they just walked in on them.

Oh I think one got a loaded weapon in a vehicle too,not both.

My point: the fines don't fit the crimes. Put them on a road crew digging ditches with a shovel. Have them walking along side the road, or in some of these game preserve parking lots,  picking up trash. Hard labor fines stick with people more than money. I suppose the union people would be all over this.

probably...your right.. though don't they make DWI people do weekend cleaning up places? No fine doesn't fit crime...guarantee all four just went on to be more careful. I'm sure the wife no longer speaks of what hubby and son do....lol

To tell ya the Truth...surprised the heck out of me to have read about the baiting one. Must have been a ticked off hunter that knew them in the group...good for them.

Voice of reason right there...

Lawdwaz...This isn't a criticism nor any type of slight. That said I have thought on this a few times with your responses, I honestly find it difficult understanding how you don't see or know of the type of things I mention. I read your posts, so know you hunt not too very far from this area, I am assuming you or family grew up in the area. These things aren't really kept secret by locals. I have conversations with guys about this stuff all the time. People aren't even shy about talking about family members involved in these things.....Yet you act like they are just unbelievable. are my assumptions wrong about the area you hunt?

MAGNUM shots with turkey loads sound different!! I have heard over a (number) of APRILS- that magnum shot that no turkey scouter wants to hear.

If someone is going to poach a turkey, do you think they stop and think, "hey, let me load a magnum turkey load because I'm going to poach a turkey today"?

Can you also tell the sound from buck shot to bird shot as well?

I have to agree with Shawn here. Also barrel length has more to do with muzzle blast than the load that is used. For instance, the 21" barrel on my turkey gun with a standard 2 3/4" load may very well make more noise than a 3" magnum load out of a 28" or 30" barrel.

Weather conditions make a lot of difference, also as does the direction the shot is fired in.

My buddy in Ontario has shot more than one bird within a fairly short distance of me with his 3 1/2" 12 gauge, and I barely heard the shot or perhaps didn't hear it at all

You didn't see or know anything in terms of actual illegal activity in this case. In fact, this is the case in most of your stories. You're going by the "assumption", based on your bias towards your neighbors that they are doing something illegal. I think some folks were trying to be polite and stating it sugar coated for you. Not everyone out there making a shot during daylight hours is a criminal. Unless you know of an ordinance that prevents them from lawfully discharging their weapon, they don't need your permission to fire off a round. You're pretty quick to judge others, but when others call you out, you get all offended. Ever think why is that?

P.S. I noticed that you edited several of your prior posts, which would indicate that you fixed up any spelling and grammatical "mistakes" and "typos" that occurred. I can only "assume" that what's left is your intellect. Kindle can't help you there this time.

P.S.S. Don't bother to say it, I'll do it for you.

STOP! HAMMER TIME!

stop

I'm editing this to say never mind. See for all the nastiness talked about on this site and disrespect ...well things mentioned to me no one wants that target on their back. So even a simple stop campaign to get this under control won't work ...so be it. You are apparently what is enjoyed here.

No idea what you're trying to say. Maybe I can plug it into google translate.

Nope, that didn't work either. There's only so much google translate can do as well. Sorry.
