The Northern Cardinal

The spring time is such a great time of the year.  Second only to fall in my mind..........

One of my favorite "signs" of spring is the song and sight of the male Northern Cardinal.  When I hear them I'll stop what I'm doing and search way up high in the barren tree tops for the bright red plumage of the great bird.

I had a neighbor who is deceased now, that would call to the cardinals and the seemed to respond in kind.  I started doing it years ago and have some fun with them............my current neighbors think (and rightly so) I'm nuts. :)

Play this little clip and enjoy what others have put together about the bird.

I heard one just yesterday morning. Had to get to the job site so I didn't have time look for him/her and I can't whistle to save my life, but I know that they nest in a tree about 15' from my bedroom window every year.

Spring-time is like magic. Everything is reborn, as if Mother Nature just hit the 'reset' button and sent the birds out to announce it.

I agree Lawdwaz, love to see and hear the first Cardinals of the year, as well as the first Robins.  We should be starting to see the return of them very shortly. That tells me that spring turkey season is not to far behind.

The Cornell U. website is a great place for bird sounds. I've had it bookmarked for several years now and I use it a lot to figure out the feathered critters.

I have a Mockingbird that comes through every spring. Duck quacks and seagull screeches are his/her forte, and it's kinda' weird when you hear them from the treetops. Keeps me amused while I'm grilling.

Here in Dutchess County , I see cardinals year round at the feeder and robins as early as February.

The cardinals do sound cool.

Sure, cardinals don't migrate but their "song of spring" is my point.

Can't be beat...............
