Opening day ,shot a target Tom. Before that the cams around the property had hens and Toms everyday. By weeks end all Toms disappeared...Now not even the hens are showing...their exodus is complete...lol

Time to hit camp and hope trespassers didn't shut or kill every thing down there...

Thanks..admittedly I really miss my opening week/weekend road hunter turkey hunting down at camp...In that I actually have more fun with the road hunters than the turkey...I certainly get more laughs from them.  Alas I have been just too busy to get there and honestly too tired to get up at 2a.m. and drive from a morning hunt then home...

Gosh the looks and body language when they get hooked and turn the truck off...waiting for the edge of road calling and then the over the culvert hop to ..."Do you want to be arrested today?"...Hahaha it's like the air rushing out of a Macy Thanksgiving Day parade Balloon! Then I try to guess how long a hesitation each will make before the turn and scuttle...heehheehee. Only once did I have one stop to try and talk to me...hhhmm a guy with a very uncomfortable/embarrassed client....

I'm not sure how many turkey are at camp this year...we usually have a fair number but the yotes bobcats and bear have been doing very well down there so numbers have been on the decline...but the whole area is great turkey habitat...Snowing there today as well.

PS...I know how that may sound to many of you...but that attitude is far better than being in a constant state of "Pizzed off" over something that I will never be able to change unless I live there. I might as well have fun with it..while making a point...you'll never know if your going to get caught....

Dont forget about the fishers! We have seen several, and had one spending alot of time around one of our good roost sites.. since that fisher has been in there, the turkeys seem to have vacated the area...

We get a decent amount of "road hunters" (seasonal road that dead ends, and turns into private property and tractor paths.. all posted) as well cause the local yocals know we have birds and manage for whitetail.. kinda sucks but what can ya do if your not there...

We killed 7 longbeards off our piece last spring and it seems it may have affected this years longbeard numbers... they seem thinned out some or just tight lipped and hidden.. not sure yet.. there are atleast 4 though lol
