Peregrine falcons in flight

Recommended Posts

Great pics. I know the site well. Those birds tolerate a lot of with all the foot traffic. I had to lecture a Coby student about proper wildlife etiquette. He did not realize that getting bombed by them meant he was stressing birds that have a lot of work to do - including keeping eggs and young warm. He was the catalyst for the signs that went up a couple of years ago asking people to back up if the birds are agitated.

Yeah, there was a fair bit of traffic yesterday but the birds weren't paying any mind to the people. I'm sure as they get further into the nesting season that will change. They were spending most of their time stooping toward the canopy at the base of the cliffs, probably trying to flush something out since it didn't appear that they were actually going after a specific target. I didn't see them come up with anything while I was there, but they were also out of sight quite a bit so maybe they were having some luck.

I don't know if anyone has examined what they eat. There are a lot of pigeons in the valley - all within easy flying distance.
