nybuckboy
We don't seem to have any or very few oaks in and around the 7M. I was just in the Woodstock, Hudson Valley area this past weekend and they have a lot of oak trees.
ATbuckhunter
Probably depends where you are. Where I hunt its loaded with acorns so if its a bumper year the deer movement is very low, but on the low years it can be easy to get one. growalot
Depends on past logging and types that were in the areas when heavy logging was done...remember NY now has a relatively young forest. Major cutting was done way back when..oak beams held everything up.

growalot
Town and county histories...usually you can find on line nowadays...document the activity in the 1800 century and up. Like around us...they had a huge saw mill and would float logs down Hemlock lake......town and county historical societies do a great job of taking you back to the beginnings. More people should check them out...
