nybuckboy
I have quite a few beech nut trees on the land and they are dropping. I understand that second to acorns, beech nuts are a deers' favorite mast. Is this true? Anyone else have beech trees and are they dropping where you are? Also will they have all dropped by the time the season opens?
Rockspek
Yes I have beech trees, yes they are falling. Will they all drop before season opens? Depends on your trees and what season you're talking about. Bow is only a little over a couple weeks away.
Pygmy
I think that most of the game prefers beechnuts to acorns. They are not as dependable producers, however, and often the critters have them all cleaned up before the hunting seasons open. The beeches on The Mermaid's property are dropping right now.

growalot
Here they will usually be done by Oct 1...but they drop so much the deer will be in eating during season. They have a tuff outer skin even out of husk. .We live in a beech woods so always have deer...Now with two great masts at the same Time..They will hit the acorns over the beech, easier to eat...I have some of the healthiest looking deer this year.just solid muscle mass ...between the farms alfalfa, oats, beans, corn and my clover, acorn, and beech...soon they will carb load on us.. Apple and turnips,WW....I see some hard dragging coming up. Edited September 13, 2016 by growalot
