G-Man Posted April 27, 2017 Share Posted April 27, 2017 (edited) Well my.three largest trees died so I got.them.cut down and found a guy with a mill to cut them into planks.. Largest.made it to 14 inches, I got a 10 ft.log from that one . second was 12 in .but only.got a 6 ft log from that. Last was only.8 inches.. Got an 8 footer out of it. Up next sawmill ,drying time and finally a new bar.. Love making things from lumber off the land! I'm sure it will be the only.american chestnut bar around.! Must of planted hundreds of trees, mostly around the zoar valley area. I should really get some Chinese ones a try. I have 750 trees from the Saratoga nursery (nys dec program) arriving tomorrow. G-Man Posted April 27, 2017 Author Share Posted April 27, 2017 I'm still involved with chestnut foundation..my.largest tree was registered and it provided pollen for many others.. Was fairly blight resistant.. Healed over a few times..bear climbed it 2 years ago and scarred the bark pretty good..blight over took it then...
