uberyan
Currently shoot a Spot Hogg 5 pin sight, I was at a range and ran into a guy shooting a single pin which piqued my interest. Stumbled upon the Apex Gear Covert Pro which is a single pin/dot with more of a rifle scope like reticle. According to the DEC, it is unlawful to take big game with: A firearm or bow aided by any artificial light or a laser that projects a beam toward the target. The Apex Gear has a lighted dot but it doesn't project anything so it should be considered 100% legal correct? I know there's a regular single fiber optic pin option but I don't like vertical pin sights, I'm a bit fickle and picky when it comes to visuals. Prefer a floating dot or a horizontal pin. dbHunterNY
seems like a dead battery would screw you over hard during low light but yea seems to be legal. best for those types of questions to ask the ECO that would potentially ticket you though. ....pretty sure you're fine. Culvercreek hunt club
They are 100% legal. It doesn't project a beam onto the target.
uberyan
That's what I figured. Just wanted to be sure as the DEC regs aren't always the clearest in the world. As for the battery issue, I would def pop in a fresh one when I went out and carry a few spares. I think it uses the same battery as the red dot on my .22 plinker. I've left that on overnight by mistake and it still has plenty of juice so as long as I don't get too careless, it should be a non-issue. I'm just wondering if I should make the change now considering the opener is only a few weeks out. Sighting in and working out any kinks and what not. Sounds like plenty of time to me. you aren't picking up a new bow. It's only a sight. Buckmaster7600
It's legal, I avoid anything that is dependent on a battery for hunting. If there is anything I learned in 8 years in the military it is that batteries/ electronics fail at the worst possible times. I only deer hunt 50-60 days a year and spend all that time waiting for that few glorious seconds and don't want it ruined by a battery/electronic failing.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
chrisw
I have one and it's awesome. Battery life is like 3,000 hrs, I'm still going on my original battery, I keep a spare in my pack and it can be changed with a quarter or pocket knife. Sometimes I shoot without the LED lit, you can still see crosshairs. Don't let the battery life keep you from an awesome sight. 4 guys at work have ordered it since I showed them mine.
