I thought I'd share a little story and pics from a late Feb. 2018 Hare hunting trip to northern NY. I live in S. central PA ; and it's a 5 +hr. drive. I arrived on a sat. at 11am and not familiar with the area ; but a friend gave me a few spots to hunt. I hunted with 2 beagles age 11 & 13 yrs... They still hunt like fools ! We hunted a spot for 3 hrs. with a couple slow runs . Plenty of Hare tracks but no sight of any Hare. I decided to try across the road from where I parked . I walked the edge of a swamp and with 3-4 feet of snow my snowshoes were fine until....I stepped down into a frozen waterhole and broke through. I extracted myself from the knee deep water and headed to my truck . Numb feet by the time I walked the 650 yds. and it's 3pm. No extra boots so.. Day over . . Day 2 arrived with 4 in. fresh snow ; and my friend with his 3 younger beagles. We tried a spot I scouted before getting to the motel sat. night. We weren't in the woods 5 min. and my 13 yr old beagle opens on a fresh track. As the other dogs harked in it sounded like a screaming freight train of beagles ! In less than a minute they were outta hearing and at 400+ yds before the Hare turned and headed back our way. It evaded us 2 circles around; but the 3rd time my friend connects. The rest of the day was outstanding running ; with 9 Hare chases and 3 taken in Approx. 6 hrs. Here's a few pics. I will be back in the fall for sure.

Hello All,
Just thought I would drop a message saying 'thank you' for the add and hoping that you all have great luck and stay safe this (and all) seasons. I enjoy the outdoors and decided to get licensed last year. I'm new to the game but always looking to learn and try things. If anyone ever feels like they want to teach a thing or two, I'm open to invites to outings. I've got 4 kids to feed and I'm hoping to put some food on the table and enjoy some relaxation out of the office. I welcome all tips and tricks!
First question is opinion - your preferred caliber for hunting deer and black bear (and why)... one rifle & caliber to cover both animals... and... go!
Thanks!

I'd like to introduce myself to the forum, I hunt mostly in the Catskills around West Shokan and Woodstock also spend some time in Dutchess County as well around Red Hook/Rhinebeck area. With deer season pretty much done I was looking for anyone who would want to go rabbit or small game hunting. I have been trying to find some spots but am definitely open to suggestions as I haven't come across anyplace with a lot of activity, could be the weather. I don't have my dog trained yet and do most of my small game hunting with a .22. If anyone is interested let me know. Thanks.

Can someone help me here? I got a great little cottontail this morning but am concerned about the liver. It has a bunch of little squiggles on it (see attached). I'm not keeping the liver of course, but is the rest of the rabbit ok to eat?
Thank you very much.

As I sit here at my desk at work on a rainy saturday I cant help but think tomorrow morning is supposed to be fairly dry. Talked to the wife last night and have her convinced our 2 year old is ready to go out for a squirrel hunt tomorrow. Last night I checked to make sure his hearing protection and safety glasses still fit right( sun glasses if you ask him)lol.... made sure he has his hunter orange vest and hat.... It may be private property but better safe than sorry... poor kid was ready to go as soon as i starting looking at everything. looking forward to a good day in the woods with the little guy and hope some good results and lots of questions.... just reminds me of myself going out with dad and grandad all them years ago.....
