Guy's when do the antlers stop growing? I have a few bucks on the trail cam and all are in velvet, so when do they stop growing and start to shed the velvet. I think it's in September. Am I wrong? not really sure.

most growing is done by end of july(3rd-4th week), all that takes place is mineralization now. shedding can start in august with the oldest bucks losing their velvet first. earliest i've seen shed bucks was august 13th when i watched 2 mature bucks spar and was able to catch it on video.

Buck antler will be hardened by now or within the next week or so... and velvet will be shedding between now and the first part of Sept. I have seen velvet still on during Labor day but not much longer after that. Like a lot of the deer world though... there are huge windows for a lot things.

maybe spar isn't really the word, but he was trying to display dominance w/his antlers, kind of push him around; and I haven't seen them do that until this time of yr when they are hardened up.  Seems like they try to protect their antlers until they are done, this guys must be done.
