Probably an easy one for someone, but I don't know what this is. Growing in wet soil all over my local preserve.

I think you're right. I had "cabbage" in the back of my mind, but for some reason I kept thinking water cabbage, which I knew wasn't right. Thanks!

Yep, skunk weed.

Skunk cabbage. Look at all these seeds from one in crop of fall turkey few years ago.

Just break off a leaf and smell it.... carefully. 
Definitely skunk cabbage. That purple thing is the flower and as it ripens it gives off an odor of decaying corpse. ITT attracts flies as pollinators since it’s too early for most insect pollinators.
