Bird hunting during deer season

Went out today for some pheasants but didn't find anything. Really just wanted to work the dogs a bit. Does anyone else bird hunt during deer season? I tried to keep to the middle of the fields as I did not want to run in on anyone out there for deer. The dogs work pretty close so I don't think we did any harm to guys in the woods.We were in Putnam county.

I have been out a couple of times and found not a bird, I think they are done stocking for the year perhaps or maybe its cause they get hammered constantly and there aint none left. I am going to switch to Grouse and maybe a preserve so I can work my other pup in a controled envrironment after deer season.

Both times out I found more deer sign than bird sign, Gus found a doe that was bedded down that waited for us to get real close before she jumped up and ran. That was funny to see my pointer pointing a deer..haha he was pretty confused.

I have been waiting for deer season to end before I try some grouse hunting. I dont go for the stocked pheasant anymore. Has anyone been seeing any grouse out there while deer hunting?

I have not seen any but I haven't been in the best grouse areas either. I am saving this one chunk for after deer season, last year we kicked out alot on a deer hunt.

Pheasant run is your dog a brittany? I have 2 French Brittanies who love the birds.

I will answer for him, yes it is a Britt.

Yes , I have two American Brittanys. I am thinking I will go in a couple of more weeks I am looking for spots on the DEC website but I dont know how reliable that is. It says there are wild pheasant in north west NY and they give a lot of grouse spots. I guess I will have to try as many as I can.

Nothin better than hunt'n with my setter! Less than a year old and my boy Arrow has pointed pleanty of birds between spring to now. First bird we brought home together. Shot at three but this was our luck for the day. Grouse are the most challenging bird and the boy was just born with the understanding.

Highly recommend Grouse Ridge Kennels in Oxford, NY. They know what they're doing. They been at it a long time.

Have you ever used a decoy to hunt whitetails? If you haven't before you might want to start! I woke up one morning and look out my front window only  to find that my 3D deer target was in pieces all over the front lawn! A fired up buck decided to take his frustrations out on the target!  this took place sometime in November during the peek of the rut. Hope ya'll get a kick out of it!

      Self filmed Bow Hunt

      Just wanted to post a video of one of my successful bow hunts this year. Something about documenting your hunt and self filming adds even more of a rewarding feeling to a bow harvest when it all comes together. *Disclaimer*  I don't think I'm a "pro" nor am I trying to be just love filming and tinkering around with the editing. The audio on the video from my second doe harvest is much better than this one, I figured out a few tricks with the editing software recently and I'll have that one done by the weekend. You can skip through the talking parts if you want the shot happens around the 3:20 mark.
