biggamefish
I am looking for a shotgun scope. I was wondering what you guys use and have had good luck with.
biggamefish
To add to the question does anybody use rifle scopes on the shotgun and how does that work?
Culvercreek hunt club
I really do't think there is a difference between the two today. I mean comparing the same quality of scope for both. When I think of a shotgun scope I guess you mean lower magnification and smaller objective? I find it odd that they coudl say the scope could be placed on a 416 Rigby but couldn't take the rap from a 12 guage....lol. I have a 3x9 on my shotgun. I know many here like lower magnification. I personally like the ability for higher if I feel i need it.
Culvercreek hunt club
Oh. and on the first question. That is kind of liek asking what car would you buy. I bet some guys have great recommendations if you had a $ range you want to spend.
Lawdwaz
I've had a Leupold Vari XII 2x7 on my shotgun for about 30 years. (one scope, two guns) It is mounted on my Ithaca Model 87 now and has been since 1988. Before that it was on a Remington 870. It has seen hundreds of rounds and shows now signs of going "tits up". Don't fall for the "shotgun" scope hype. Just buy a Leupold VX2 2x7 and hunt!
Pygmy
What Culver and Lawdwaz said... I always used regular rifle scopes on my shotguns. So have nearly all of my hunting buddies. Just be sure to get one with sufficient eye relief. It just so happens that the scopes I've used on my shotguns have been lower powered, El Paso Weavers, but there are many other good options out there. I have a 1.5 X 4 x 20 Leupold in my gun room that would be a sweet scope for a slug gun.
wooffer
I was told that the "eye relief" is greater on a shotgun scope. I think I read it on leupolds faq section.
