Finally. It is about time.

So, being pro-gun/hunting/sportsmanship, according to you, should mean, pro-givingconvictedfelonseasyaccesstofirearms?

Yeah, I'm going to pass on that batch of Kool-aid.

The Kool-Aid is that they don't already have it. The only felon a law against felons owning guns is stopping is one who wishes to lead a law abiding life. The felon who doesn't give a crap, and wants to live the "thug life", we'll he's already got a gun. I hear gun owners and sportsman say gun control only inhibits the law abiding all the time. Do you actually believe it, or is it just something you say to have a retort?

As for felons becoming felons by infringing on someone else's rights, if only that were true. If the only felonies on the books were malum in se laws, the statement would be true, but it isn't. When victimless mala prohibita become reason for felony conviction, the statement ceases to be true. If they're too dangerous to own a gun, they're too dangerous to be out of prison. If they're out of prison, I cannot condone the creation and continuation of any sort of secondary class of citizen. A debt paid is a debt paid.

In other news, I picked up my big n small game plus fishing for 10/1/2012 Last Thursday.

How does a law against felons owning guns infringe upon the rights of law abiding citizens?

I wont be holding my breath for an answer because my money is on the chance that you wont have one.

It is an ineffective law. And no man who is free, no matter what his past or crime, should be debarred the use of arms. Your claim is that a person convicted of a felony can not lead a law abiding life, and should thus be disarmed forever. That's like saying crashing your car into another should lead to a lifelong ban on you driving, because you can never be trusted to drive your car again. Or any such comparison you wish. Civil Death is an inherently Un-American ideal, and has only recently in our history raised it's black and ugly head. By allowing the government to divest a portion of the population, in this case an easy target - felons - you open the door for further infringements. First the felons, and everyone says "That's a great idea". Next it's the "mentally ill" (happening now, I might add). More and more groups divested of a FUNDAMENTAL right.

Name some felonies for me. How many felonies are there in NY? Does each one transgress the rights of a person, or do some simply transgress an arbitrary legal boundary set by the state. Everyone of us is one overzealous ADA away from felony conviction. Anyone here who says they have never broken the law is lying not only to others but himself.

What part of you get a felony, you lose some of your rights, dont you understand? Felony robbery doesnt infringe upon others? Assault? DWI? The punishments are supposed to deter people from comitting the crimes in the first place. Start removing the repercussions, and what do you think will happen?

Not everyone is an "overzealous ADA away from a felony", only those that make bad decisions.

Your line of thought doesnt make sense.

yeah and this is not a state thing for the felony, it is a federal one. But feel free to move to another state. Is it a coincidence about your name and this thread or did you create it to post replies that will start a fight?

Note above where I said I just got my big n small game plus fishing for 10/1/2012. :)

The name is just a play on words with a jazz musician. Don't like it I guess? I just don't understand gun owners that always want to meet the enemy, and yes, they are the enemy, halfway, thinking that will be enough. As for your reference to 18 922 of the United States Code, did you think you were educating me? Thanks, I feel all warm and fuzzy. It's almost like you care.

As to Sogaard, fear not my friend, as soon as my wife finishes her doctorate at USB, we're gonna sell the house on this crappy island and head southwest. Slightly further than Texas though. And I work on your Island. Let's meet at the cigar shop in Hylan Plaza and talk about it over a cigar.
