Grouse
With the movement to defund police all the rage, gun-control activists now don’t trust police with guns. The Trace, a Bloomberg-funded outlet dedicated to gun-control advocacy, is probably at odds with police in part because officers are so overwhelmingly in favor of gun ownership. When a 2016 survey by the National Association of Chiefs of Police asked 15,000 chiefs and sheriffs if law-abiding citizens should be able to buy guns for self-defense, 88% answered yes. PoliceOne surveyed its 450,000 members, and 77% answered that legally armed citizens are extremely or very important to reducing crime rates. https://crimeresearch.org/2021/01/the-gun-control-advocates-mantra-police-violence-is-gun-violence/ Edited January 31, 2021 by Grouse

Not too long ago it was "gun-deaths" and this wrongly included justified and legal self-defense, suicides, and justified police shootings to prop up the numbers. Then it became "gun-violence" to include all shootings without a fatal outcome and again wrongly including all types. When they talk about "children" they include all the <18 year old adolescent gang-bangers, which make up the majority in this group but don't clarify this. A famous statistician said it best about statistics "Numbers don't lie and liars use numbers!" Gun-control advocates follow the science? Cities that have the highest gun controls have the highest gun-violence. Comparable Cities that have the lowest gun controls have the lowest gun-violence. If you similarly follow chronologically the implementation of gun control laws you see a correlate increase in gun-violence, with gun-control laws; and the converse is true also. Don't believe me, Google John Lott and read-up on his work.
SportsmanNH
Now just imagine what Chicago would look like crime wise if police only were allowed to carry a night stick . It would be a free for all for the drug dealers , thieves and looters .

And I don't mean the politicians.
Grouse
Police in Chicago and NYC have been ordered to "stand down" during riots and fear punishment from the mayor if they do their jobs now, so they stand back and let it happen. They have been placed in a no win situation by their elected leaders. Until their Democrat leaders can disarm them, they will prevent them from doing their jobs. If they ever succeed in disarming them, it will be very hard to get anyone to be a cop in those cities.
