IR cam - setting Q - white day pics

Recommended Posts

Got another cam facing generaly North, takes good night stills but in daylight hours the pics are white. Pir med, res med. Switched res to high. If I can't find the right setting I can mess with it at camp I suppose. Not convinced it's defective. Tested it at home before I set it up. New at this - any pointers?

Complete whiteout?

Thinking possible stuck IR or cam defect.

Generally speaking most manufacturers will tell you to orient so it is not getting sunlight...BUT...the real truth is if you are getting actual whiteouts, then the cam is defective sans a battery issue or stuck IR filter. Sounds kind of impractical, but if the batteries are good then give the cam a good whack with your hand (hold in one and smack it on the side with the other). It may free up the IR filter. If it does not, then it is time to send in for a replacement or pitch it.

Update - well I contacted WGI and they are sending me some 'filters' to put over the lens to try. They probably won't get to me before the weekend so that gives me time to pull the cam bring it to camp & try facing South & other settings till then.

FYI, most WGI cams are unable to be updated via firmware. I think that is changing for this year's models or the upcming model year, but up to then, no way to update firmware.

I'd also suggest you just ask WGI to replace if within warranty parameters. Getting a good WGI cam is a game of chance....just keep swapping them out til you do.

Seriously, filters? Its a big enough pain to hike out and put the cam up correctly and now you have to worry about filters to? Send it back!!!
