  1. Probaly the same way having them in place will help the buck to doe ratio. Meaning it won't either way.

  2. I agree with Doc's comment on how we can't have a one-size fits all approach to the deer hunting regs. Especially with AR. Its great to see that some areas where there were very few nice deer walking around, now have better hunting. That said, to me its not something that is necessary statewide. Along that same line of thinking, I don't think the one buck rule is good at all. Different areas of the state have different management needs. Restricting all hunters to one buck woudl benefit some areas and hurt others. Also, if the deer herd can support hunters taking more than 1 buck in a given area, then why not allow hunters to do what they love?

  3. Forest Hunter..Thanks for being a good sport ( chuckle).. I have seen a couple of precocious fawns with visible antlers, certainly bigger than buttons. Then of course, I remember a couple of early developing girls in junior high that had racks bigger than normal for thier age, too..<wink>...

  4. According to the DEC monetary impact on the communities will be minimal, I tend to agree with them. And I think "upstate" is hanging on just fine. I don't support AR's and in my opinion they don't go far enough to have an impact. Seem's like a half assed attempt to quiet some groups down, the same groups do not want stricter AR's put into place. I find it interseting how many hunter's cannot age a deer if their life depended on it, mistaking Button bucks for does is crazy to me, balking at a 1.5 year and killing a 2.5 year old and thinking that is any better is crazy to me too. I'm not suggesting being able to tell a 4 yr old from a 5yr old is important, but maybe we should educate hunters on how to tell which buck is a 3.5 yr old compared to a 1.5 or 2.5 yr old and then let them decide what to shoot.

  6. Some how shooting a deer in that shape after along fight and in that situation does not seem very sporting or ethical to me. Maybe I just think weird, but just to say I shot a 10 point that was lying there incapacitated does not see much like bragging rights. But to each his or her own. As to what I would do, I would call the local DEC officer and report it and wait for them. Yeah you may shoot that 10 point but good luck getting them apart without ruining the antlers anyway, So you end up with a pile of sawed up antlers and some very stressed out high adrenaline meat, and would have to make up a lie about getting the deer unless you want to brag about killing not hunting a deer that could not get away.

  8. What would I do? I would try to separate them so long as I did not put myself in harms way. If I could not, I would leave them alone and come back later to check on them. Eventually one of them would be in a position where the other one could get free. Maybe one will die due to natural causes BUT I would not shoot one. This is called SHOOTING not HUNTING! Let nature take its course.

  10. I hunt 3h which has been an AR area for six years. In the past six years I can say that I have not had a problem shooting a deer. If anything I have had the opportunity to harvest bigger bucks than in the past. By choice I let all of the yearling bucks walk which some have been legal to shoot. I actually have more of a choice to make now and that is what buck to shoot when before we were lucky to see a spike or a four pointer. The first year was the hardest because of how limited it is to get a dmp in this area but did get a doe during bow. It has completely changed hunting for the better IMO.

  12. As a true NYer, we are not allowed to eat at any chain pizza joints. You can only buy pizza from a guy who wear tomatoe sauce and flour on his dirty wife beater shirt. It's the law.

  13. I didn't see the show...but I would have to guess it would take at minimum 2 guys to get these deer untangled. I guess my answer would have to be go find a few other guys & get them untangled. I can't see myself shooting a buck in this scenario unless the deer was truly in agony & to end it's suffering.

  14. I had a buck on my property who was VERY neat and tidy.. He always hung out where there pretty wildflowers, and instead of sparring with the other bucks, he had tea parties with the does... He snorted with a lisp... I named him "Bruce"....
