This one gave me the slip a few times, but it ended up like all the others, tumbling. H&N resized and weight sorted pellets show a measurable increase in first shot accuracy. SJC

Igloo rotomolded sportsman series. SJC

Unless they're bloated I do the same thing. I've put injured deer out of their misery several times too. Nothing crazy about your actions at all. SJC

This one took awhile before it gave me just enough time to drop it. The mus in my area are getting cautious, so I took a nap and got up early to catch this one frolicking about while the birds were chirping. The early bird gets the mus. SJC

I really tried to make the Gamo 10x hollow point pellets work, but they were too erratic in the accuracy dept. I'm looking to get a pellet sizer and seeing if I can make them work as they show real promise, are soft and not prone to ricochet. My PCP rifle prefers the 8.2 grain H&N Finale pellet. They're prone to ricochet because of their hardness, but are one hole wonders without a lot of tuning. SJC

A runner was my first June mus. SJC

Beautiful night for thermal and the 1280 res S60R didn't disappoint. Ordered some HP pellets to try out next week for more explosive results. This mus gave me the slip a couple of times and thought I was shooting blanks. SJC

This mus ran right by the kill zone a couple of times before it stopped. I gave it an insurance shot just in case because wounded mus are very dangerous. SJC

I'm waiting to see your contributions of splattering vermin. SJC

With the leaves and fauna growing rapidly the mus have plenty of places to hide now, but this one chose the wrong spot to take a break. SJC

Buy a thermal scope and mount it on an air rifle. Bye Bye rat. SJC

Mus have been scarce, so I put some bird seed in strategic locations to draw them in. It didn't take long before a mus was in the crosshairs. SJC

With some affordable 1280 resolution thermal scopes becoming available I decided to liquidate some optics and purchase one if the price was right. Got a NocPix Ace S60R a few weeks ago and mounted it on the Barra .177 PCP rifle to get acquainted with it hunting mus around the abode. Holy freaking awesome Batman. SJC

Getting My Feet Wet With A Thermal
Shoots100 replied to airedale's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Great choice for a starter thermal scope, but if you think you'll be using it sparingly you're sadly mistaken. Next is a thermal spotter, as you spot 99% of the time and shoot 1%. Can't wait to see some video. SJC- 1 reply

Celebrated two birthdays Sunday PM, so that meant eating two pieces of blue velvet cake and a big bowl of watermelon chunks so I was too sugared up to sleep. What else to do but go outside and hunt mus to work it off. SJC

Worked overnight and decided to see what was lurking about the abode when i got home. I found a mus that's been eluding me for awhile lounging in a bush thinking it was safe at 2 Am. Well it turns out that maybe it knew my air rifle lost zero, but it didn't know that as a long range shooter/hunter I've been trained in the use of Kentucky windage. Kentucky 1 Mus 0 SJC Confirmed

Spied a mus wandering about over the weekend, but being Easter weekend I gave it a break. Weekend ended, break ended, mus ended. SJC

The third dog I dropped at a beef farm in Orange county. Dropped the male dog two weeks ago and figured the female would be hanging around looking for a mate or calve. It was howling the whole way to the field so much that I thought it was someone playing a joke on us. She didn't need anymore shots after the first, but being it was the last days of the season we let the bullets fly. SJC https://youtu.be/qW7_nZPdM58

The second dog was part of a pair that was chasing deer on a ridge. After an hour snow/sleet/rain delay where I hunkered down under a pine tree with my tactical stealth scooter I was able to call them into range and lucky enough for the male to stop in a sparsely wooded spot where I could get a quick shot. Tried to coax the female back into range, but no luck as the rain moved in and soaked me. SJC

Ended the dismal 2024/2025 Predator season dropping three coyote. I took off Thursday + Friday being the weekend was called to be a washout. First stop was at a buddy's camp I've been trying to get to, but the deep snow had the seasonal road closed. This strawberry blonde female came in silent and ran right by me into the food plot, but it didn't run fast enough. SJC

Been focusing on taking out coyote, so Mus hunting took a backseat. Since it's been getting warmer I decided to take the Mus rig for a spin. It didn't disappoint. Not the best image, but it was very humid. SJC

This is what happens when you have a bum hand, forgot to take the tripod because you only have one hand to grab the rifle, fall over a fence in your attempt to get a freehand shot at a dog that's been eluding you for months, forget you have a bum hand and can't take a second shot because you can't feel your fingers after cycling the action with your bum hand. To add insult to injury, there were two dogs in the field and my buddy was trying to let me know one dog was sitting 50 yards to my right side the whole time I was trying to sneak into range to get a shot and I didn't see it because I turned my comm's off. Been awhile since we've seen a dog at this farm. Warm weather has them traveling around. My buddy dropped a single dog of the three I called in from over 600 yards away. Big male at 148 yards with his enhanced Savage Impulse Predator 22-250/Nocpix Ace H50R. SJC

The second day of the season I would always put a mannequin dressed in orange or camo in one of the new guy tree stands before afternoon stand. You would hear them yelling at the mannequin before getting on the radio asking what to do. One time I dropped off one of the new hunters at an occupied stand and as I was leaving he stopped me and said there's someone in the stand. I told him to stand behind a tree with the radio in case it gets violent. So I yelled at the "Hunter" to get the F out of the stand or I'm going to shoot you out of it and unloaded my handgun with blanks at the stand. He almost crapped his pants. I took him to another stand where he shot his first buck, a nice 8 point. I miss those day's. SJC
