For those who are cutting back, this is surprisingly good: https://athleticbrewing.com/products/run-wild-ipa-non-alcoholic-6-pack For those who aren’t, distribution for this has begun: http://www.bellsbeer.com/beer/specialty/hopslam-ale -

Unlike with choosing not to wear a seatbelt, where if you do fly through the windshield the harm is done exclusively to yourself (fine, I guess your family and whoever is charged with flushing your flesh and skull fragments from the asphalt may also be affected), the vaccine will help protect your neighbors too. -

That’s because Buckmaster can think for himself. As a free American he’s chosen to exercise agency only when forced to do so by his boss. #livefreeordie -

Or you could be more responsible and not host a dinner... sacrifices now to keep grandma safe. But what choice would you have? You know it takes some serious arrogance to boast about ignoring public health recommendations in light of the misery and deep sorrow you’re witnessing on this very forum. -

The trajectory of infection rates is incredibly useful and can help us gauge future hospitalizations and deaths. Yes, there is a large pool of undocumented cases as well, but the trend of documented positives is a very effective way to sample the population risk status. -

This perfect or nothing approach isn’t sensible or useful. If you get tested regularly and you isolate if positive, the outcome would be better for everyone. The utility of testing is to catch and inform you while you’re in an asymptomatic and contagious phase. Sure, daily would be great but weekly is pretty damn good too. -

The point of testing is precisely this: inform the asymptotic of infection and have them isolate. If compliant, this reduces the number of subsequent infections. Testing is not so inaccurate, as you put it. False negative rates do increase 5 days after onset of symptoms and immediately post-infection. This may not be terrible since transmission rates at these time points is not high. The solution here is to test more frequently, the opposite of what you recommend. -

Not sure what the implication is but this vaccine cannot give you Covid. 1 shot may not be sufficient to confer immunity, thus 2 shots are specified. -

In what world is Florida doing fine? It’s a matter of buy-in and compliance. You can ‘impose’ the most severe restrictions but if folks don’t take the recommended precautions you won’t see adequate mitigation. -

To be clear, a recommendation need not come at the expense of transparency and fact-sharing. That said, I do think you read the huntingNY room well. -

This is great, thanks. No one asks (or should ask) for 100% certainty or for scientists to be soothsayer. But it is important for experts to be definitive with their advice. Folks who have no experience or expertise in basic human physiology understandably have a difficult time assessing the risk of a vaccine relative to the consequence of infection, both to themselves and to health-compromised loved ones. This difficulty is compounded by the 24hr news cycle filled with pundits and talking heads whose very job seems to be to muddy the waters.. -

The discussion isn't actually about relative intelligence, common sense, or credentials. It's about basic facts about vaccines and epidemiology. If you have a general distrust of the government, scientists, and public health infrastructure, I guess that's fine. But that's not common sense - it's paranoia. -

I’m absolutely smarter than an antivaxxer or someone spouting paranoid conspiracy theories. But that isn’t very self-congratulatory. You set the bar extremely low. -

God, this is the QAnon calling card - find someone who knows more than you and call them a sheep. Then skip around and pretend you’re a wolf. Ignorance does not make you tough and it certainly doesn’t make you a leader. -

It means that if you have even a very basic understanding of biology or science you would not fear this vaccine. Only a fool prone to believing conspiracy theories would object, on principle, to the vaccine. -

That’s precisely the point! We under pay and under train the people who serve essential roles in our society. And then we turn around and place outsized expectations on them. That’s been the sad story of this pandemic... -

I’m happy that she’s improving! Having the proper perspective to enjoy the little things in life makes all the difference. I’d argue though that this is a big moment and I’m glad you were able to enjoy a meal together, albeit virtual. All the best moving forward and may 2021 bring much more joy than sorrow to us all! -

Yeah, it wouldn’t make sense for you, phantom, to get the vaccine. What with nano 5G tracking - the gig would be up. -
