  1. Let's not forget that one side believed that Hilary Clinton was running a child prostitution ring from the basement of a pizza shop. That same belief structure, allergic to evidence and logic, is fueling QAnon and Trumpism. The post Romney party post-mortem didn't compel the Republican Party to denounce the nuts on the far right. Hopefully the end of Trump will.
  2. Typically followed by “you’ll see, the truth will come out.” That’s the current level of discourse. Let’s keep Her great!
  3. Correct. The burden of proof is on those who present the complaint. Absent evidence, there is no basis for a trial and thus warrants dismissal. That’s the standard.
  4. 1- it’s not a matter of detecting at the Federal level. States run their own elections and they found no evidence of widespread fraud. Not that it should matter, but many of the challenges and dismissals occurred in Republican led states. 2- ‘Just because there was no evidence of fraud doesn’t mean there wasn’t fraud.’ You thinking this makes any sense at all? What’s the standard then?
  5. This is a great illustration of the loose mishmash of ideas that drive much of far right-winged (or Trumpist) ideology. A series of disconnected statements that never cohere into a concrete argument or position. Simply perceived or imagined grievances misdirected at an abstract other clumped under the umbrella term of The Left/Communism. It’s wild to think we’re in 2021.
  6. His own party is pushing for the 25th and for impeachment because of his lies and for inciting criminal actions against the US government...

  8. Pence should be removed for people using the hashtag hangpence? Or are you saying that you used it and didn’t get removed?
  9. So long as we don’t promote fringe conspiracy theories or organize violent uprisings I think we’ll be alright.
  10. Are you joking? The Nazi’s were fascists... I mean there are interesting conversations to have about the left-right divide across nations and through history. But in this case there isn't much wiggle room.
  11. I don't know why you're arguing that the left uses the Nazi comparison more than the right. On the surface that would make some sense given that Nazi's were right wing extremists. But that's not what this thread is about. We're specifically discussing Trump's and his follower's similarities to Nazism in response to Arnold's video...
  12. What are you talking about? Trump campaign officials have been convicted for their interactions with the Russians. After Barr/Trump claimed the report exonerated him, Mueller had to clarify that in no way was Trump exonerated. This is a false equivalence.
  13. There is nothing like this in the Democratic Party. We aren’t talking about political doublespeak or press conferences were nothing is said. This is the president of the United States deliberately lying about the election outcome and cajoling his base to charge the Capitol. Trial by force. Do you really believe it’s the same on both sides? The Republican Party is scurrying to try to salvage some semblance of itself post-Trump. How many lifelong Republicans have to disavow trump for you to realize that something fishy’s going on here? This isn’t normal. It’s not the same on both sides.
  14. This is a nuanced and valid argument. Of course the systematic extermination of over 6 million people has no contemporary equal in our society. But I don’t think that’s the point. We are seeing very similar parallels in regards to demagoguery and the outright propagation of falsehoods by those in positions of power. Likewise, we are seeing a frightening number of people outfight fall for the lies or turn a blind eye for political expediency. When the VP and the Republican Party are contemplating how best to rapidly end the president’s term and when QAnon conspiracies are the prominent source of information for a pathetically large fraction of the populace, I don’t think comparisons to Nazism is so inappropriate. The aim isn’t to diminish the atrocities of the Holocaust but rather to remember them and to guard against letting the hateful scapegoating tactics of that time become acceptable again.
  15. The protests you’re referring to were in support of racial justice. Surely you’d agree that’s a better cause than attacking the Capitol because you falsely and stupidly believe that the election was fraudulent. All the racial justice protests that turned violent were immediately scorned by Democratic leaders. By many accounts, Trump enjoyed the show as the dumb asses stormed the Capitol and his staff had to twist his arm to get him to put out a statement. In that statement he told them that they’re right and that he loves them. To in any way equate these 2 causes of unrest is to totally misrepresent very recent history.
  16. The only thing I can offer is to encourage you to be a bit more critical when you hear things like “they want to change this country” especially when it comes from someone that wants to make her “great again.” Isn’t she already great? These are meaningless tag lines that are used to divide us and to politicize ideas for political gain. “They don’t love America!” or “that’s unAmerican” are ridiculous accusations that you’ll often hear politicians say. Don’t fall for it. Realize that they’re creating an adversarial us vs. them. It’s a very useful and effective political tactic but it doesn’t help any of us. Try to find the actual dividing line and see where you fall. For instance, let’s look at masks. There’s scientific consensus that wearing them can help slow the spread of the virus and perhaps save grandma’s life. Yet you don’t see actual debate about the data and about the effectiveness of masks. The conversation becomes a convoluted mess about being submissive to authorities and complaints about the government taking away your freedom because they’re forcing masks on you. Tucker Carlson is not going to draw in viewers if he hosts experts to discuss fluid dynamics. It’s a lot more entertaining to have a lunatic screaming about how mask mandates are a violation of your fundamental rights. Conversations about mask mesh density is much less immediately compelling than “they want to change America and make us mask-wearing faceless sheep.”
  17. It’s funny how misfits need to believe that they have some particular insight to the order of things. Surely everyone else is blind and only they can see.
  18. What are the choices? list so far: The Real TC JeremyK Treeguy Chef ATbuckhunter Blackbeltbill Turkeyfeather
  19. It’s a fantasy that makes people feel relevant. Similar to conspiracy theories. It’s also been the basis of NRA marketing for the last decade. ‘Disorder and unrest are coming through your front door. There’s a bad guy at every corner. Are you man enough to protect yourself?’
