Full inclusion of crossbow during bow season if 60 or older.
Doc replied to First-light's topic in CrossBow Hunting
NYBH members seem to be really on the ball when they elect their officers. They seem to be super effective in pleading their case to the lawmakers. -
I wear whatever is hanging on the hooks down in my basement and is appropriate for the weather for the day. I have not been obsessive about scent other than wind direction compared with how I expect the deer to come into range. The best defense involving scent is to try to make sure that your scent never gets to the trail, by paying very close attention to wind direction, including thermals.

I guess I have a lifetime supply of aluminum arrows ......lol
-
I use aluminum arrows. They do still kill deer just as dead as any other arrow.

The world is a changing place, and our American culture has been changing right along with everything else. And hunting participation is yet another thing that is slowly moving out of existence. It is sad, but it is also getting very obvious. The actual numbers get all mucked up with the counting of licenses, and the tracking of total money spent on hunting supplies, but no one is out there assessing actual participation. As one who has been observing hunting activity for more years than I care to admit, I have taken note of how it was versus how it is, and that is the only indicator that I trust.

Has anyone ever heard of a crime being committed in the past century with a muzzleloader?
-
I don't know.....Look at all the extra steaks you get from that deer......Oh damn....that's sick!

Eddie- Apparently I am never going to catch up to you in age, so I'll just wish you a happy birthday too. We're close but you have got me beat........Ha-ha-ha-ha...

Political section? Why so quiet?
Doc replied to New York Hillbilly's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
The beauty of this site is that none of this is forced on anybody. You have to go out of your way to access any of the posts here. You have to consciously click on this part of the site to be able to view any of it. Even the general site menu does not carry any mention of posts that appear in this section. So those who find this stuff offensive are actually going out of their way to be offended and they know it. -
What are your thoughts about this deer hunting quote
Doc replied to Northcountryman's topic in Deer Hunting
To be honest, I have nothing negative to say about what other people shoot or consider worthy of taking. I will be the first to congratulate someone who has taken a fawn as long as they are proud of that harvest. I think we spend way too much time and energy trying to shame hunters into taking deer that WE feel they should take. It is important to me that I do not discourage any hunter who is appreciative of the deer they have taken (regardless of size). Whether it is one that I would have taken or not is entirely irrelevant. I often wonder how many hunters we have lost because we thought it was our duty to make negative comments about the deer that THEY have chosen to take. -
I have a serious question that may wind up with more than one answer: Are those wild geese really good tasting? I have heard mixed opinions. What are the pros and cons of the wild goose tastes?

We didn't have the "Green Thing" when I was young
Doc replied to Grouse's topic in General Chit Chat
We didn't have electric cars back then because the grid would never have handled the massive load........Oh wait that is today's situation isn't it? Maybe we still don't have the "Green Thing", but just think we do. -
My son and his wife were visiting from out-of-state, and we were looking for something like that to go to. Too bad.

That's some mighty fine shooting!

I missed it. I would have liked to have gone. It looks interesting. I wish they would advertise these things better.

They don't really get into any detail, but the label for the product says: Sta-bil 360 Marine Ethanol treatment and stabilizer They have a bunch of different products and the Marine Sta-bil was what was recommended for me to use by someone. Of course I am not that much of a chemist, so I haven't got a clue whether I was being told the right scoop, but I can say that I have not had any carburetor issues since I have started using it for chain saws and weed-eaters and such. That wasn't the case before I started using it.

Hochul Strikes Again
Doc replied to fasteddie's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Does any of this nonsense impact the buying of ammo components and supplies? -
Man, I hope this doesn't sound too stupid, but doesn't the Stabil additive take care of ethanol problems? I've been adding the marine grade Stabil for the past three years or so, and I have not had any carburetor or small engine problems since. I kind of thought I had solved the problem.

What a great playground. It kind of inspires me to add a few things to my own range.

Well.....looky there.....By golly they do exist!

I'll tell you one thing that is raising hob with my archery and gun shooting. It is pretty darn hard to settle that sight pin down on the bulls-eye when you have that constant whine of mosquito-wings in your ear, or mosquitos drilling into your hide. Its no better for gun shooting accuracy either. It seems that nearly every night there is a significant train, as well as rain through the day. Those skeeters just love all this great jungle climate and are having a breeding frenzy....Constantly. We don't even dry out anymore.

Wow, this forum provider REALLY doesn't want people to use it, does it?

Political section? Why so quiet?
Doc replied to New York Hillbilly's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Another good reason to avoid this political section is the depressed feelings that come from being reminded that we (the voting public) voted in all these idiots and crooks (precinct by precinct) that are destroying the fabric of this country. We are doing it to ourselves. Can anybody discuss the situation that we are in and not walk away depressed and realizing that the reason for our eventual demise will be the erosion of the basic decency and character of the people within it. Now, there is the obvious reality that each successive generation has deteriorated to the point where one has to look inwardly and see that the system has finally broken because of the "something for nothing" citizenry that comprises it. We can blame the political parties, but in the end we must understand that the government and the parties that run it are simply a reflection of ourselves. -
NY DEC pushing to ban lead ammo again.
Doc replied to Grouse's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I have to wonder how any eagles even exist at all today. How many centuries have we been using lead ammo, and all of a sudden, eagles are endangered my lead ammo? Also, it seems that the eagle population is thriving these days in spite of the continued use of lead ammo.
