We are getting smoked pretty good up here in Evans Mills area. 40 plus winds and snow coming like crazy is making travel all but impossible. But of course the roads still have those ones that believe they can do it and cars off the roads all over. Military folks seem to have to learn the hard lesson rather than listening to the weatherman and their own eyes.

Well that’s kinda a double edge sword. I think the state itself kinda dropped he ball ball on the overall management of the herds in many places with their rules and laws such as changing the mandatory check stations all the way to giving farmers the green light to kill deer all night long which many just gut shot and let run off to die elsewhere. Then your spot on with hunters taking things in their own hands if you will with them trying to make their hunting better and a better chance for bigger bucks. When everyone wanted to be their own Bone Collector things sure did change. I don’t see it changing back anytime soon with the money involved in the chasing of big antlers. Evolution I guess.

Exactly. And they will never control the herd or harvest numbers until they make mandatory check stations again.

Hunting Coyotes with Decoy Dogs
Four Seasons replied to airedale's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
Those dogs better not trip up. Lol. Pretty cool watching videos of them doing this in the south. -
Exactly and for the price it will pay off. Find the bolt after the shot if pass thru….My Scorpyd will sink them to the Nock after blowing thru. See where you hit the deer and even find the deer with the lighted nock if not a pass thru. Shooting 60-80 yards into targets show where your grouping. Definitely not a have to have but for the little they cost…Seeing though the crossbow was over two grand..They are definitely worth the cash.

I was about to say that before I see you found him. Sometimes it takes a bit for them to fill up inside if there is only one entrance hole. You handle fit the cause. Just Lucky. Congrats!!!!

Trump!!

You have to remember. That left field guy is like the idiot cook that used to be on this site and thinks that Biden is doing a great job. -
Good Luck on both. I will be down there Saturday for the end of rifle and finish out muzzleloader season.

Your right to a point. They will do that when they smell something they don’t know what it is right away. Some deer smell a whiff of human on a branch and they will turn inside out trying to get out of there. Some will smell this ever calm and not that it alarms them but it’s definitely something new as far as smell and they will stop to figure things out and then bolt or continue on their route. Even Evercalm can put a hurt on bow hunters at times because those same once calm deer are now aware and alert about a different smell that it puts you at more jeopardy of getting busted moving or making a noise.

Such a pretty deer. Can’t imagine hunters not wanting to let more get to this age and look. Once they kill a mature buck most won’t look back.
-
True That. Here is an example of a pretty deer in the state. Way up North in 6G
-
I don’t think I would give him that much credit. This buck taken off our farm last week topped the scale at 144 pounds. So hard to guess on those run down breeders but the buck in the pic is definitely not as wore out as the one taken on the farm.
-
11 deer in the beans again tonight with 4 being legal bucks but nothing showed from the hit list and nothing as big as this girl. End of the Northern Zone Rifle. On to the week of Muzzy here and then spend the last two weeks down at Letchworth to close out the season.

That’s prob pretty close.

Yeah word has it those bows with so much power are burning them up in about 50 shots or less. And some shops are charging up to $350 just to change out the strings. Crazy!!
-
That sucks. But my Scorpyd ate a string pretty fast also. At 480fps there is a crazy amount of pressure on those things. Every new crossbow made should also be able to be unloaded without having to shoot a bolt.
-
We have a good population of deer as a whole on both properties in 6G and 8M. But definitely a drop in mature bucks to chase around this year in both areas.
-
Of course type of land would dictate price. A 50 acre lot near us down in Livingston Cty brought almost 8 grand an acre. Mostly all tillable land.

OH NO Another Knife!
Four Seasons replied to airedale's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Definitely looks like he was packing on for a cold winter. Buddy shot a decent 10 on the park and he was worn out. Actually shot him in his bed and had very little fat anywhere. -

Not to derail the thread but is the fat on that buck as thick as it looks? -
Sweet. And it seems as though there is at least one other beast in the woods that would take him to task by the looks of the fighting on his hide.
