  1. Will be after them every second available until the bell rings. Still have two of the three hit listers alive so will go all out to grab another. Those that say they don’t like “Hit Listers” either don’t have the gumption to go find a couple of the top of the class or have what it takes to take the best on one on one and let the chips fall where they will. Have no need to lower the standards and take a lesser buck. Have doe tags for that. Good luck to all headed to the end.

Yeah, it did get kinda ugly there for awhile immediately before the split, as I recall; I knew that this site would survive, though,  cuz there's so many members. Thing is, it was all over politics, right? Many of the guys that left were complaining about the politics section; some even calling for it be removed.  Why? For me at least, I would suggest an excellent method of removing the political section: Dont effin read it , then  !! And you know what? Theres a political section over there, too , so, whats the diff?

Exactly. The truths were shown when they moved along. It’s all good. This site will still be enjoyed by those that are here and a Quick Look shows that there are not piles of hunters knocking down other sites doors to get in. All the same posters that lived here daily just now live there. So be it…..

It is most useful in dark conditions, that is when blood will show up best. In the daytime I can pretty much spot blood on my own.

    Al

Not sure they even make a gadget for daytime blood trailing? I think I saw some kind of spray one year they were pushing for blood trails but that I believe faded away. Maybe they make some kind of glasses for folks that have issues with different colors.

I'm on both.  Why not?  I like both, but too be honest, even though FS says this sight is the best it's ever been, I have to disagree. Can't say this forum is flourishing with content and new members.

I often go back to read through old threads on this site. So much info and great advice for past yrs.

The folks that stayed here are the folks that live their lives in real time and don’t feel the need to post their daily lives on a website. They also don’t feel the need to bash others. We also don’t miss the pack mentality of those that once lived on this site and now live elsewhere. The same ones that are pretty much the only ones that  now post elsewhere. You say you like to read back?  Read back and show me the last disagreement between any of the members that didn’t leave here?  I will wait.   It’s all good. Many said this site would disappear also but yet here we are.

As many of you may know, until like 2 days ago, I hadnt been posting on the forum for a while- for, like 7-8 months, I'd say- which is quite some time.  Been busy as HELL the past number of months, such that I only went fishing 2-3 times this past season,  a trifling amount for me. (My profile pic should provide some indication that I am definitely, much more of a devoted fisherman than a hunter, although I dearly love both!). Anyway, I havent been posting on ANY forums that I'm a member of during that time-not just this one- including several fishing forums and also, other hunting forums, As I recall from when I was last active on here , I remember that many long time members had bailed to the other forum, NY Woods & Water. I did end up joining that forum early last year and checked it out again the other day when I posted on here. To me, theyre both almost identical and I dont really understand why the schism occurred in the first place. Anyone else hold dual membership with both forums? ( Incidentally,I also joined a NJ Hunting forum cuz decided to buy a Jersey license this year since its in such close proximity to me :D).

I’ve been on this site from the beginning. I see no need to posts the same posts on 2-3 different sites. This site is now the best it’s ever been. Without the need of more then 1-2 mods let alone the need for 5-6-7 mods on other sites.

When I was young the woods were full of hunters and the deer were small.  I used to long to find woods to hunt that weren't filled with every neon orange wearing nimrod on God's green earth.  And they wore that full body orange suit to avoid getting shot by one of those other orange clad guys who was as dangerous as a lit stick of dynamite.

To see a good-sized buck while hunting was as rare as seeing an alien space craft landing.  Every spike buck in the woods was killed by the end of opening day.  Big bucks only survived on land that was not open to hunting and they fled to that land the minute the first shot was fired, only to stay there for the rest of the open season.

The old days weren't as good as most guys seem to think they were in my opinion.  Today there are far fewer hunters and I also notice far fewer shots, but I also believe the shots fired now are coming from hunters actually shooting at a deer and only taking one shot most of the time. Maybe the price of ammo has something to do with that.

Today I can find lots of land to hunt, and lots of 6 and 8 point bucks to hunt for.  Less pressure from hunters means more opportunity to really hunt the way I want to hunt, utilizing hunting skills that won't get ruined by some guy in the woods wandering into the area without a clue, smoking a cigar, suffering from a hangover and smelling like his car's air freshener. Fewer hunters in the woods is also the main reason we hear of fewer hunting accidents every year.

There are many drawbacks to fewer hunters in the woods, but there are also many positives for the guy who is a real hunter, one of the 1% who really takes the sport seriously and goes about it professionally.

There are advantages and disadvantages to everything, but I prefer to look at the advantages and make them work for me.  I for one, am having more success each year, and bagging bigger bucks now than ever in my life, and I'm doing it with real hunting skills, not so much with dumb luck like it used to be when that's all you could hope for.  Sure I worry about the sport dying, but it won't die for me and if others choose not to do it anymore, that will be just one more poor choice younger generations make.  I'm just glad hunting was something I could do my entire life because it has truly enhanced the quality of my life all along.

Perfection!!!!  Hunting for the best and smartest of the species has never been better.

  7. Double edged sword for sure. Less pressure works out great for us looking for only the top of the class when it comes to whitetails. Some say there are not less hunters year after year but that’s a tough one to deny. Most definitely less hunters in my areas of choice.

A friend of my son had asked him if we would take him deer hunting some day. His friend Danny had never been deer hunting and wanted to get a deer. We took Danny out this morning with us. It was his first time deer hunting and my son put him in a 2 man ground blind with him to teach him. In the first hour Danny was able to bag a big doe. The joy and exhilaration Danny displayed was priceless. My son taught him how to field dress a deer and we helped drag her out. Take a new hunter hunting with you when you can. We couldn't be happier for him.

This broken rack buck has some serious heft in his size. His right side of his rack is busted off, and even with it intact it’s not all that impressive. But, I’m not sure if he’s an old buck going downhill with his rack, or just a young big ass body buck not yet there with his rack.  Looking at his deep chest and sway in his back, I’m really leaning towards him being old and  past his  prime.

With as little pressure as my land gets, I know there are deer who easily could drop dead of old age if they just stay put on my property. He may fall in that category.

I would guess older and would let someone take him out that’s just looking to make meat. Personally I would not shoot him even if both sides were there but I would allow him to be hunted to make room and more food for a young up and comer.            He is a beast no doubt.

Man, that’s gotta hurt. Deer can be pretty tough critters. I’m thinking maybe an arrow slice from a poor shot.

I don’t think arrow because of the angle and how it runs up the jaw bone.  Definitely hard to guess for sure.

I’m after an 11 myself.  By random chance, my current collection of shoulder mounts is otherwise complete, from 6 to 12 points, with no duplicate counts.  This 3-1/2 yr old (9) from two falls ago would have cost me the $500 or so, had I got him before the rut, and he still had the two points that got deducted from fighting.

That was a close call.  My wife prefers the Euro mounts that only cost us 45 minutes of my time and a quart of gas for my power washer:

Pic’s. We all love looking at pic’s of mounted animals ??

So I’ve read pros and cons ..not sure if it’s too early to try it but… I put the scent bomb bottle out tonight

Had a nice 6pt come in behind it but never got too close , then had a nice doe come pretty close , she blew and took off..’

Now I don’t think the rut is on here in the fingerlakes yet so maybe it’s too soon to use..

Then I wonder what’s really in the stuff

They sell millions of bottles of this , how the hell are they collecting this much doe in heat urine ?

    Just doesn’t make sense ….

Just like all these sprays , they are chemicals … I would think deer would know they are not natural

Any experience with Tinks 69 good or bad

If you’re going to use scents don’t waste your money on junk. Get the real deal from the real deer farmer and you will be in a much better place for success.

I would rest easy if I were you. Hunt and enjoy it as long as you can until it sells if he is agreeable. I can't see how anyone could possibly have 320k into 60 acres of land unless it was heavily developed into lots complete with access to things like public water and sewer. My guess is you will be hunting it for a long time. I doubt like hell anyone is going to pay that kind of money for 60 acres. Pipe dreams!

55 acres next to ours in Livingston county went for 350k last fall. Big farms will pay the price. Push the 15 acres over and farm the whole parcel. Location is the key.

I think, like all animals, they synchronize with their closest interactions...ie, two girls sharing a dorm room with sync over time, generally. Being behind a fence simply means that they have enforced interactions and less chance of being influenced by outsiders.

Never see that behind these fences. Out of 100 does of course a few might fawn on the same day but pen mates are usually  not that close unless i synchronize them with CIDR’s and manipulate their cycles.
