Yeah they have some new neat stuff on the market these days. This contraption was a brain child 10-12 years back. Amazing how sweet it works and easy to get around. Those new rope ones even come with motors to give a little more power. Not sure how the battery life would be on some of those models. -

Picture this if you will. A handcart with a winch installed and a marine battery strapped to the floor of the handcart. Two straps securing the cart to a tree and a plastic sled rounds out the unit. Sliiiiiiick as can be. -

I still live in the bottom at 58 and I still have to stay away from the easy access points but I have had to add a couple extra ropes the last couple years. Disclaimer….. if it does not go on the wall. It Walks. One does not take that venture with me if filling tags are their objective. -

Exactly. Less pressure will make better hunting for all age classes of deer. And make a better herd of all age classes.
-
Again you keep having to say trophy bucks. Mature bucks will be the outcome of better management but that would also leave plenty of young deer for those that can’t take a mature deer for whatever reason. When tradition and history has made a poor deer herd when it comes to total management it should not be held the same just because that’s the way it always was. Change has to happen for improvements.
-
I think 1 buck per hunter your choice of season would be perfect. There would still be a gun season. Just not during the rut. There could still be a bow/crossbow season and a muzzy season. These other states didn’t get the great deer hunting they have by accident. Some hunters will bitch regardless of which way the state went. Just the nature of the beast. But Ny will never change because he’ll we have white shirts any tie’s that probably have never stepped in the woods calling our shots. Hence we will always stay in the bottom of the top 10 deer hunting states.
-
When you have a well balanced herd every hunter gets the same opportunity. When a herd I geared towards the larger buck do you not think there is not still little bucks for people to shoot if the want is there? I’m not for Ar myself. I am in support of shorter seasons, no guns during the rut and mandatory deer check stations. Ny has no idea how many deer they have or that are killed every year. And haven’t for years.
-
See your still clueless. The antlers come with the success of finding, Hunting and killing the smartest animal in the woods. I tried to get this buck right here and will be back at him all next week… Does this look like antlers to you? This deer has never had a daylight picture taken. There is a big difference in someone that really hunts for a deer and someone who just shoots whatever they are lucky enough to have walk by.
-
Spot on agree with you. But like the posts you put up the other day about trail cams.. if a guy could care less what he shoots and only goes for meat be it yearling buck/doe or older why keep track? Why bother? Your still out there and still getting your venison. That grand in trail cams could have bought a lot of other needed stuff I’m sure. And a better managed herd would still give you all you want in deer hunting and would also help all other hunters regardless of what their goal is. A better aged herd will still give those that want to shoot younger deer the chance and will also satisfy those that need the challenge of finding and hunting the real best, biggest and smartest deer in the woods. Let’s be honest here. It’s not real tough to just kill any deer in today’s deer hunting. And if it is then they are not giving it much effort. Like going to where they have a better chance of killing any deer.
-
Exactly. And like you said. 30 plus years you only harvested maybe 10. And better management plan would give you that great feeling of getting an older more mature deer. AND you would have the great harvests and great times that you have now. Win-Win!
-
Bullshit. It is the hope of killing the 3.5 year old that drives hunters. Most can’t get it done or settle for less. Our resident Wolc shows that to the max. Always kills babies and now that an 80 inch buck walked in front of him he can’t stop showing pics of it and talking about it. Usually the way it works out.
-
Negative!! Know them well. Ny wants to make laws that work out for the idiots then I will stay out of it. Not worth the hassle it could become. I will never risk myself, family or business to stick my nose into someone else’s business.
-
Exactly. Seasons to long. Guns during the rut. Way to many tags and the biggest one is mandatory deer check stations. I know 2 guys killed 11 and wounded 3 on a little chunk of land up the road from us. Either not tagged or tagged with wives and kids tags. One would be shell shocked if the true number of illegal tags were being used were known.
-
Shows what kind of idiot you are. The man already told you his freezer is full and he is done hunting. You make it pretty easy for people to show….Well I guess you already know what that is.
-
Dude you really need to quit digging your hole deeper. You talk family needs this and that yet on another post you said your teenage kid just tried venison for the first time. You talk bullshit of this and that of meat first yet you get lucky and an 80 inch bucks walks in front of you at its front page news on every post you make on every subject. You think people respect your thoughts on any of it when you take pride in killing the dumbest deer in the woods. And talk more shit of 100 pound button bucks walking around. I can look out my window and see 25 of the top pedigreed, best fed no stressed button bucks in the state and doubtful if 5 of them weigh 100 pounds on the hoof. That Meat over Antler bullshit you talk about holds no water when you can’t stop yourself from posting that monster 80 inch buck.
-
True That. But to the write ups credit that is why Ny is down on the list. With some smarter laws made up and other tossed away a Ny hunter would be able to fill their freezer and still have a much better shot at a P&Y or B&C. Like a few of the states above #10 spot.
-
Love it. I have 4 pairs of those in hiding so far myself. Headed to camp Monday to spend the last week chasing after my Tier target “ Trophy”. Lol. Wish Me Luck!
-
Lol. When your a so called “Meat” hunter…Which could be because they don’t have what it takes to take so called “Trophy” bucks every year..and you finally kill one with a little bit of calcium on its head it must make your stecker pick up a little. Now even though that one there in his pic is a walker in my world it just shows how much shit that one is full of with his words when he has to throw a pic of it in there on about every post he makes. Can’t imagine what it would be like if he ever did kill a real so called “Trophy”
-
Is that another pic of that “Big” buck? That so called 100 pound button buck would be the pic to continue showing every post if -“Big” is what your trying to show? Won’t be holding any breath for that one either.

Exactly. Look at the hole of this buck taken with 165 grain bullet from a 300Wby Mag. With no exit hole. 165 grain Big caliber does not always mean big damage. -
7 news just said 66mph here on Ft Drum and 68 up in your neck of the woods in Edwardsville. She’s a rippin.

So to be fair they have no idea where they hit said deer? Tuft of hair could mean a total graze and there would be no fat or blood involved and even the best of shooters can get a touch of the “Fever”. Had a buddy that was a great shot take a long poke from a tree with some pretty good wind drop a buck at a couple hundred yards, dumped him and he spun around on the ground in the wide open field a few spins and jumped up and ran right to him. After him dropped him with a close shoulder shot and cleaned him up we went to move him and found the first shot split the beam right above the burr on that buck, you could actually move the antler. All with a 243. -

223. Hit where they are supposed to be hit.
