Don't beat yourself up over this, mmkay. It's not your fault. Dammit, Blue was old. That's what old people do. They die.

I'll be out nice an early to my stand Saturday.

screw in steps would be cheap to use, too.

Correction: Ex-girlfriend was from Wappingers Falls and that is south of Poughkeepsie. She loved staying with me when I lived on Honeoye Lake....figured out why after visiting her hometown. She tried to prepare me but I still could not believe how much traffic there was. She was smart and knew me well enough to know that I would never move out there and cut me loose. Now, I know myself better and she was right. Atleast 10yrs. ago...how overcrowded is the area now??

Is downstate NYC? Lived here all my life and have never visited...thank God! Been to Poughkeepsie once; too crowded.

I believe it's the 212...I heard he shot it with a 12ga and the 1st shot (to the head) only stunned it/knocked it out. Had to run up and shoot it a second time. This is second hand info. -
Just picked up a 25-06 for me and my kids that will be hunting in next few years.

This button buck bedded down next to me...after I took this pic. @20yds away. Chewing his cud for 45mins. Tough to move and get comfortable.

Have you practiced shooting from a treestand? How many feet up off the ground are you hunting? If you have only shot for 6 weeks, standing in your yard, shooting on level ground at a target..... Then you better get off the ground and practice. You may find your problem. All so, make sure you are not looking through your peep and just shooting at the whole deer....pick your spot. Good luck!

Great camera reviews over at chasingame.com Build your own at HagsHouse.com ...but, for the cost and time it takes to build one; might as well buy one. Another suggestion if you are a "Baller on a budget", buy from Bass Pro when they offer their 6 Pay. They ship you the item and you make 6 monthly payments.

Here are the harvest "objectives" this season.

I use to think that hanging a new stand or scouting before rain was a safe way to wash my scent from the woods. After working with blood tracking dogs, I think I was fooling myself. I have seen dogs track a specific deer when there was no visible blood to go on. Rain washes it away and the dogs have gone in 24+ hours later and have made recoveries. I saw a show that trains police and govt K9 dogs. Trainers take 5 different drugs and puts it in one package. Dog can smell each one of the 5 scents individually. Saved time by not having to train K9's 5 separate times for each scent. Now, how in the hell am I going to fool a deer's nose? I have had deer follow my trail/path that I took to my stand; one was nervous and proceeded with caution. I arrowed him. One was young and perhaps tolerable to human scent. I let him pass by. I still take steps to reduce; or more correctly, cover up my scent. But I know if a deer gets downwind I will be busted.

Keep your eyes open on craigslist, too. I'm on some new property this season and spending too much money on stand setups and cameras for some douche nozzle to rob me clean. I know a guy that welds his ladder sections together to discourage them walking away. I hunted some town property and replaced the pins at each section with padlocks. They want it...they will need to drag it out 20' long and load it on a trailer. Hope you catch the SOB!

It was just a thought while in North Carolina on vacation. Looking for a "family" loophole which I figured did not exist...but, how many plan on registering their guns with the state? On a side note; I went to a store today and bought Triple 7 black powder right off the shelf. No id needed. Powder or pellets; no matter. The fire marshall in Monroe County does not even let Gander Mtn. sell black powder... Period! Shelves down here are empty of ammo, too. Unless you're looking for shotgun shells. Wanted to buy some boxes of 40 instead of giving NY the taxes.
