  1. Take it to Uncle Charlie's...he has the best hours. Been doing it for 40yrs. He prides himself on service and packaging the meat so that it is "wife friendly" (clean). He caped out my 9pt this year and insisted it stay in his cooler until I lined up a taxidermist. Made his guys carry my buck so the shoulders/neck would not drag and damage cape. I don't remember any other deer processor shaking my hand. Drive back to the shop and drop off around the back. Tell him & Casey NYHuntClub says hello if she is working. 1230 Harris rd. 2. And young, too. Impressive.
  3. Congrats....how far from your father's old wooden stand were you when you shot. That part is pretty sweet.
  4. Hunt in 8F and Sunday was hot with grunting, chasing and sightings. Woods are tore up with scrapes and rubs.
  5. I opted for the Savage 111 with Nikon BDC scope. $477 from Budsgunshop.com . Model 700 and T/C were on my list, too. Price and reviews is what helped me decide. That and the Nikon scope. Good luck!
  6. Definitely looks like his right front leg was injured in the past. I would guess 3.5yrs.
  7. OK, just wondered your area. I know of an ECO, too.....sure he would like tips such as this one, all of the time.
  8. I can relate. Which region/area are you in?
  9. Got to work today and heard of 3 different people dodging bucks on their commute in. Get out and hunt....good luck!

  11. Head over to town of Camden and or Cleveland. A lot of state land north of Oneida lake. Family use to have camp just north of Cleveland and did pretty well with the deer hunting the property.
  12. Exactly...it didn't ruin the season. Just like the X-bow will not ruin the season....good point!
  13. What I read is: The state does not want these game farms (or avg. Joe) to import, breed, or own the Eurasian Pig. The game farms have had a track record of these pigs escaping. They would have a 2yr. grace period if law passes, to get rid, hunt or relocate them outside of NY. So, if you see a pig while in your stand....shoot it. You will not be able to go to a preserve and "pay-to-hunt" them. The state is trying to prevent them from establishing to the point that they become a real devastation. They list the following: * They consume the nests and eggs of ground nesting birds and reptiles. * They can kill and eat fawns and young domestic livestock, * They eat almost any agricultural crop as well as tree seeds and seedlings. * Their rooting and wallowing habits destroy crops and native vegetation, cause erosion, and negatively affect water quality. Every Eurasian boar in the wild is estimated to destroy 11 acres of wetlands in its lifetime. * They have razor sharp tusks and can be aggressive toward humans and their pets. * They carry and can transmit several serious diseases including swine brucellosis, E. coli, trichinosis, and pseudorabies to livestock and /or humans.
  14. Train Raise them right!!! My daughter gives me big buck, good luck kisses before I go hunting.
  15. What do you think "raising" children is....essentially, you are training a person. And, I hope you take my above posts lightheartedly.
  16. I don't understand.....what are these house chores you speak of? Is it like that noise maker that the wife turns on and rolls across the floor back and forth when I'm trying to watch TV? As for laundry. I used to wash my hunting clothes before season....but I always called her down to the basement and ask her how the washer works. She washed them this year. I advised her to use the special detergent and the dryer sheets I have and to then place them in the garbage bag inside a tote. Wives are trainable. You just have to start early. Like Force Fetching a retriever. You may get some resistance at first.
  17. Ruined! Just go hunt. Newborns just sleep, eat and poo. If it's sleeping....hunt. If it's hungry...go hunting; not like you can lactate, right? As for poo and diapers, I changed maybe 5 diapers total....put it on backwards, too tight, too loose and take too long to do it and you will be relieved of diaper dooty.....so, go hunt. Wife will text you pics and you reply with something like..."Ahh, so cute. Can't wait till kid is old enough to take hunting."
  18. Deer Search will most likely not take this track. Only white hair and no foul smell leads me to believe that the deer is fine. Additionally, you searched 300yds looking for sign. This means any blood there was, could have been stepped in by you and him. This mucks up the track and the Deer Search tracking dogs start tracking where you walked. Seen this happen a lot.
  19. Thanks everybody. I hunt in 8F. This buck came from my lease in Wayne county, first season hunting this property for me. My buddy has been hunting it several years now and he is all about QDM. It's working!! So, now I'll be thinning out some of the does. I believe the nocks are Nockturnals "S" for my Beeman shafts. I did read someone using a dab of hot glue to solve this issue. I will be doing the same from now on. Got some daytime pics with my 5yr old daughter before I dropped him off to get caped and processed today. Flattering when a guy who handles so many deer, is impressed with the overall size of a deer.
  20. I am Happy, happy, happy!!!! Took a walk around scouting after my morning hunt today. Found 2 spots I wanted to hunt; a creek bottom and a ridge top. Went back this afternoon with my climber strapped to my back and headed for the ridge. Shortly before 6pm., I spotted a deer far off through the woods; maybe 100yds away. It was heading north along the ridge and I noticed it was a buck. I was east of him and pulled out my bleat can and gave it a turn. He stopped briefly and began walking again. Pulled out the grunt tube and gave it a couple hits. He stopped but my view was obscured. I stood ready for several minutes scanning for any movement. Was he still out there? Then, I heard the soft crunching of leaves. He had swunf wide and was coming in down wind. There was a Tulip tree adjacent my stand and the leaves blocked his approach. When he cleared the Tulip tree, he was right in front of me at about 15yds. I just remember thinking, "he's a shooter." I began to draw and trouble arose. My lighted nock pulled out of the arrow shaft. WTF! I got the knock back in and he was stopped, quartering away. I prayed the nock would stay inserted as I drew back on him. Just as I anchored, he began to walk again. Only a few steps before stopping again. Practice paid off as I saw an opening through the branches and thought I could thread it through. The Magnus Buzzcut made a complete pass thru and stuck in the ground; lighted nock still in place. He took off running and made it 40-50yds and stopped. It is now that I am hoping that I made a solid shot. Then, his back rump dropped slightly. Was he going to go down? That's just what happened. He got weak in the knees and woobled, then hit the ground. He was done. Just as it started to rain. Once I remembered how to use my phone(my hands went numb), I started calling friends and family. And my cousin, I was going to need help loading him up.
