Just like everything Doc, prices are way way above value with maple equipment. The cost of evaporators would make someone getting into the maple world sick to there stomach. I am purchasing a larger evaporator this year and Leader wants 17,000 for a plane Jane 12 foot rig. As does everyone else. I have a producer just north of me that spent 160,000 in equiment upgrades this past summer. I have a buddy in Vermont that cost him 800,000 to get started with a 10,000 tap operation 4 years ago. And people wonder why pure maple syrup cost so much. I am having it Amish built to my specs for a 10,000 dollar savings. A new sugarhouse being built as well. This day and age Reverse Osmosis machines are flooding the industry. Cheaper to buy a used RO to upgrade production. The past couple years the advancement in technology from taps and tubing to gasification arches has been overwhelming to keep up with the latest and greatest news. Anyone making syrup for years or just getting into it should visit http://www.sugarbush.info/forums/index.php? its a great resource for information, photos, used equipment, location of dealers etc.

Maybe for a hardware store but not as far as maple equipment dealers goes. There are some mind blowing large equipment dealers with more money wrapped up in inventory than I will make in a life time all across NY. lol.

Yep and tape your sleeve cuffs and pants tight so thye cant creep in.

I gave up last year on hunting shows, Havent seen one since. I got so worked up on the boasting of bad shots, the screaming and fist pumping while still in the stand when clearly it was a bad shot placement and all the celebrations before they even look for blood. I cant remember the name of the show of the very last one I watched but it was it for me after that one. This guys gut shoots one heck of a buck and is all celebrating, his camera man says the shot didnt look good, bowhunter responded he has never not made a recovery and thats a dead deer.. They get down and start tracking right away. find an arrow covered in green and blood, keep pushing forward searching and then comes to a creek. Hunter turns to the camera and say well I guess that is it, theres no way to get over to the other side for a recovery. WTF are you kidding? there is no way across the ankle deep water of a small creek about 10 feet wide? No road that crosses the creek? Hell put a couple garbage bags over your legs and walk across it. Then the guy goes on a boast how this will be his first unrecovered deer ever and feels horrible. Yep havent watched one since. You want to learn how not to hunt? Watch a hunting show on TV. -
It been another bad year for them here. Been taking them off the dogs and cats as well. They all even have the flea and tick tuff on them from the vets and the ticks seem to not care. Creeeeeeepy things.

Yep since its all above board call the board of labors. Sounds like he knew before he hired you he couldnt make payroll so let other go. My guess is they were making more money per hour so he kept the smaller payroll. Pretty common practice this day and age but he still has to make payroll. This guy made a commitment when he hired you, your pay comes before his.

Got to be careful with EBAY. I was looking for a particular item and found many but all over priced to begin with for used and then there is that shipping and handling charge. Finally a new add went up for what I was looking for but there were six of the items in the picture and the add said he has 6. The price was a good deal for 3 and a great deal for 6. I was about to hit buy now and decided to question him. Mind you the add kept saying 6 items etc, the question I asked was if price was for the lot of 6 or each, reply was each. A complete ripoff for 1 of them but he worded his add tricky enough to make one think it was for all of them. Glad I asked.

It sounds like this is an under the table job. An employer doesnt pay due to cash sales. That is a line of BS unless this job is off the books. All sales cash or credit would go to a business account with a bank, the first thing payed is payroll, then bills paid. If its not above board and on the books there is not a whole lot one can do that I can think off. Good luck and hope times get better for you and your family soon.

Thanks for that contribution! I already said why I dont like rage, I have no reason to say it again. I guess if you dont love rage, one liners are not acceptable by you but its okay for your one liners because you love rage. Okay got it!

I think this discussion has run its course. Back on topic? I hate the rage.

Just because something is expensive doesnt mean its a guarantee its perfect by any means. Im anal as well when it comes to my bowhunting and I have bought all sorts of shaft and broadheads over the years. I can tell you I find atleast 1 out of every six arrows brand new out of the box no matter what brand it is to be bad. Spin test, water test etc and one always always is not up to my standards. Never rely on cost or claims of specs to be good enough. I also like WNYB shoot G5's now and have for years. It is not all that hard unless you have like 80/80 eyesight to see knicks or a spin test for a bent head. What would worry me far more than a head I inspected resharpend and that has taken multiple deer is a stupid rubber band or some other mind boggling simple device to lock a set of razors in place while in flight and hope like heck it depolys on contact. No thanks I know my G5's cut on contact are razor sharp, nick and bent free and there is no second guessing a rubber band to not fail or a head not deploy. When someone spends the time to properly tune there bow, arrows and broadheads, get there FOC right a fixed blade will be deadly accurate shot after shot. WIth a mechanical head there is more tolerance for imperfection on tuning which in my mind also takes away performance from a piece of equipment we all spend a ton of money on and demand reliability and accuracy out of. That is I think the biggest selling factor with mechanicals, I hear guys all the time say how pinpoint accurate they are and when they shoot a fixed blade they are all over the place. Its normally not the broadhead its the un-tuned equipment.

Easton Full Metal Jackets, (FMJ) are a phenominal hunting shaft. 11.3 grains per inch. Smaller diameter but have the weight to penetrate. Been shooting them for 4 years now and the exact same arrow has taken 6 deer and still is in perfect condition. Absolutely love them!

Hey Doc, next time that tire goes flat take a rope, tie a loop in one end, thread the other end through the loop, put it around the center of the tire on the rim and pull it tight as you can and blast it with air. This will push the tire on the bead of the rim. I have a chipper that I need to put some tubes in it cause they cant hold air either.

Heat would trip a thermal fuse but they reset. Not a common application in a gas motor however. There is something electrical going wrong to blow the fuse or possibly it was replaced at one point with an undersized fuse. If I recall correctly some of the early motor seals can not tolerate sythetic oil for long periods of time without dry rotting them. This could be the problem you are seeing, I would have to take a guess its something that has been resolved with the onset of synthetic being common place these days. Try Lucas oil next go around and see if it helps with the leaks. Also remember ethanol is raising havoc with seals drying out as well, run high octane or non ethanol gas in these small engines is a good choice for longevity.

My biggest problem with the rage craze is the picture that is painted on less than idea shots and claims of recovery, massive holes and blood trails. I often wonder how many get this picture painted in there heads and think because they have a rage they can take less than optimal shots on deer. No broadhead will compensate for the decision to make a bad shot knowing it was a bad choice to release the arrow with false high expectations of a recovery. A tuned bow, tuned arrows, razor sharp broadheads, knowing your limitations on shot placement, distance, deer body language, shot placement, angles, yardage, practice, practice, and practice is the answer in my opinion not a brand name. For this picture that is painted I will never shoot a rage or support them.

When I was boiling in march I was seeing mosquitos. Oddest thing I ever seen in march, well almost the oddest lol. Today the black flies exploded and the worse I have seen in years. 5 minutes outside and it was awful. I think certain powers to be could skip the water dripping on the forhead to drive a man insane and just send them to NY filled with a room of black flies to get them talking in a hurry

Mountain Lion? LMAO sorry we just havent had a good mountain lion debate yet this year.

Take a set of jumper cables, put the ground on the frame, turn the key to run and touch the starter with the positive, if it turns over one of two problems other than dead battery you eliminated, solenoid or bad battery contacts. For the record I think Briggs and Stratton is making junk motors now also. I have a 24 hp B&S in my mower and from day one its been junk. Carburator vapor locks and makes it skip if until it cools down, the block is alluminum which is fine but both plugs were cross threaded from the factory and after trying to replace them in the begining of year 2 one stripped threads out the other broke off in the motor. Warranty would not cover it either and I turn wrenches for a living so its wasnt a rookie mistake. Ended up helicoiling both plug holes. Air box knurl knobs that lock it in place are plastic and all 4 broke off first time servicing the air cleaner with just turning them with my fingers. The only thing I like aout it is when the snow starts falling and I dont have to use the darn thing again for the year. Never been so dissapointed in a motor in my life.

Good news is your stringers are solid. -
My youngest boy collects bottles he finds. After researching some of them we have found out that the milk bottles seem to be worth some bucks. He has a couple of them that were apraised for over 100 bucks each. I use to think it was a great hobby for him until every darn shelf in the house is filling up with his collection and the lack of desire to clean them has disappeared lol. I need to build a nice wall shelf and put them in his room one of these days.

Are they fiberglass or fiberglass coated wood stringers? I had a boat that was wood stringers covered in fiberglass and the wood was destroyed with rot.
