Your one lucky dude. Those aid in stopping what happened. They shouldnt be removed. I also have 3 climbers, 3 different brands and although none are an ameristep the tethers are either lengthened for the climb and descent, or the strap is long enough so they are not touched on mine. If ameristep need to be taken off for climbing I would change that around. Just losing your platform in a climb isnt good as you are screwed. I do agree though to much forward weight probably was big cause but those straps would of shortened the fall by all but a foot or so. Always strap in even if unstrapping. Cant be too safe, no such thing. A unfortunate thing but something we all certainly can learn from. Stay safe and good hunting to you!

Sure glad you are okay. It sounds like you didn not have the tether attached to the seat and the platform. If they were connected this might uave been avoided. Always use a climbing belt and dont disconnect it till you are tied in the tree. Sorry you went through this.

Thank you for explaining that to jimbob. Saved me alot of typing. Must be people cant remember how things worked in the Reagan era lmao. Its truly sad when I still read stuff like this when Obamas policies for the past almost 4 years have spoken for themselves. I dont know about you people but he has sure made life tough in america and its far to late in the game to keep blaming someone else for his lack of economic 101. What you seen was the real Obama. There were no puppets strings guiding him through the debate. He has no clue. Sad thing is they both were given the topics well ahead of time to prepare for them. And Im sure his advisors went over them with him one by one and yet we all seen the results. That was some funny stuff watching that guy suffer through that debate. The tough part is about this election and any election for that matter is I was listening to alot of talk show host and suprised me the attitude change of Obama supporters calling in. The one thing was clear is the dividing of the parties is pretty extreme. Modt of the democrats I heard admitted Obama was a failure at that debate, and it woke some of them up and when asked who they are planning on voting for.......... yep Obama, reasons were all the same. "because I believe in the democratic party, what they stand for and will continue to vote that way". Yep thats the mentality of most americans whether its dem or republican. Wont see the light to vote for the better of the country. I dont think Romney could have closed out the debate any better than standing up for the Constitution and quoting from it. Obama knew he was really screwed then. -

And you sit there and wonder why you get so many negative comments. Thanks for clarifying Oh great mighty deer hunter. You bring such intelligence to the conversation. -
Well first off you cant shoot a deer if your not in the woods lol. Not a big morning hunter myself, hardly ever see deer then. Anytime from 10 till dark is a good time for this guy. BUT it probably is just my stand selections. So I stick with what I know and what works for me. All you can do is try and make a personal judgment.

questions about brassicas plots
wdswtr replied to mxsmitz201's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Wow sure wish I could of caught a break like that! It does look pretty darn good. Come back to this thread after the first frost and tell us how its getting hammered. I think you will see that it will sweeten up good and get used after that frost. Happy hunting! -

Before you claim you are right you might want to say something that pertains to the conversation even in a slight form other than asking one question. I never knew a question made a person right or sarcastic name calling did either. Look we get it you are against food plots. Its not like the friggin deer at my house are going to make there way to your place so dont plant the plots. I dont see anywhere in the laws where it says its manditory if you are a hunter with land you must plant a food plot. Pretty sad you are against anyone enhancing there land to better the wildlife and for human enjoyment. And people wonder why us landowners dont give out hunting permission anymore, the world is full of jerks and we dont want them. So go watch your hunting shows and be pissed off about the false premisses they are putting in your head too. Have a great hunting season sitting over the farmers corn field. -
You ever fall asleep in a deerstand and something suddenly out of some unconscious reasoning tells you to open your eyes? And when you do a deer is standing there staring at you and bolts as soon as you make eye contact? It sure the hell has happened to me before and more than once. My 6th sense is telling me right now to quit falling asleep in my stand lol.

The one theres no deer standing over anymore lmao.

questions about brassicas plots
wdswtr replied to mxsmitz201's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Why wont you plant tecomate again? I have planted it several times and it gets wiped out from the deer. Wait till a frost sets in you might change your mind. -
Every minute in stand is prime time in my opinion. Mornings just plain dont favor out well for me though lol. But most activity I see is 11 till sunset. When I sit I most likely will be in stand by 10 and stay put till sunset. If Im not up for that long of a stent I will be in well before light and then back out in evening but that is rare as I hardly ever see deer in am. Im not positive but I recall only shooting one deer in the morning in over 20 years of deer hunting. You have to remember deer dont lay down all darn day long, they need to feed, drink and evacuate waste just like us humans. So having a book, or the android to occupy some of that time sure is helpful. All the while paying attention. Volume is on mute obviously. You might be suprised how alert you actually are, especially hearing, you arent sitting there for hours straining to hear every little squeek in the woods, but rather you hear them more naturally as an odd sound or even a movement from not straining so damn hard on every little object. Its funny to me how every tree stumps turns into a deer after so much time of just staring at them lmao.

questions about brassicas plots
wdswtr replied to mxsmitz201's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
They will sweeten up after the first frost, then you should see more of it eaten. One of my plots has soybeans, winter peas and brassicas in it. They are eating up the soybeans like crazy, after the first frost they start in on thr brassicas. Just my observation of what happens here. Winter peas was first time planting them so I will assume they will get attention, well in the winter lol. -

bowshotmuzzleloader go back and read post number 31. There is all the legality NY state has put in place for all hunters to follow. Pretty simple. That right there is what is legal and what isnt. There is absolutely no debate its law. Its legal. What is so confusing? It also states the exact reasons why a bait pile is illegal and why a food plot is not. To question the moral values of us food plotters and the legal practice of us spending our time and money to put them in place has no bearing on what you are expressing. There are far more reasons than what you have in your head as to why we do them. The picture you and others have painted in your minds is farther from the actual most all of our reasonings are. Its just another one of those false premisses that TV hunting shows have put in peoples minds. It just isnt the way it is in reality, yes they shoot deer over those plots on TV but tell me exactly how many of them advertise come er deer, and the million other baits they sell. Bet you cant find one show that does not promote them. The point is they are most likely using both food plots and attractants to entice that deer under there stands, and not to mention they wrapped up a whole season of hunting in 30 minutes. You think they just climbed up in a stand and shot a whopper buck in 10 minutes? One other reason I have not seen mention is its a fun way to get to know the deer in your area as well. Like I said I dont hunt my plots nor trails leading into them. Its a basic sancturary and alot of guys feel the same way. But one thing I will tell you is I would of never gotten a picture like these. And due note the time on the camera, why? because that is the time that these plots are vastly used and Im sleeping. Best of luck to you this hunting season and hope you find some peace with this debate you are having with yourself and the legality of food plots. -
Interesting point erussel.

Montecs are awesome heads. Been shooting them since they came out or there after. I have shot 5 differnt deer with same arrow and same montec head( resharpened of course) 5 years in a row. Heres hoping for number 6 lol.
-
errussell I think that ould be a very wise choice and one I might use myself. Probably I will never have to worry about that though. lol Lets hope it pans out legit, I am just lost to why anyone would go through the effort of bullshitting any record deer just to say Im a big bad hunter, look at me look at me lol.
-
tjm good observation on your part, bad choice of misguided wording on mine. I hit that deer way way low in the chest and I think all chest bone where rib cage all meets. Never recovered. I would also say that a spine shot is not catching a break, I would much rather miss than see that ever again. Yep early years of bowhunting I managed that one too. Nothing to be proud of and hope to never see the suffering that pursues till you put it out of its misery. My biggest suggestion like I already said is learning body language for tell tale signs of a deer on a nervous alert stage. I have also mouthed called to stop deer on ocassion and never gave it any thought as to it alerting them to a nervous state either. Good info there. I have passed on shots after stopping them due to them pin pointing me by looking at me. A shot I dont condone either. I also have had great success stopping them with my mouth. So I would still say much would depend on the way the deer is acting prior to trying to stop them. With bowhunting for 20 plus years and filling many bow tags over that time I guess the "pressure" of I just got to get one with my bow took second stage to patience and paying more attention to making the best shot I possibly can. Still no one is perfect and made a bad shot or two over the years, just like to be the best I possibly can and make the best choice in shots I can for utmost due respect to the animals I hunt. I just not a fan of taking the chance of aiming low on a nervous deer in hopes of putting it down quickly when there is that chance of wounding a deer.
-
Now I picture everyone downloading deer call apps on there cell phones lol.
-
Good info, I stand corrected. This has to be a recent change. I know this was not the case a few years back. Hard keping up on all this stuff sometimes. Geeesh
-
So its safe to say if someone shoots a record book buck it might be in there best interest to not take the chance of the skull plate splitting and leave the antlers in tack with the whole skull? Seems the smart way to not take any chances. And no worries Im not a head shot shooter nor the infamous texas heart shot either lol. I also dont forsee a record buck in my near future but ya never know I guess.

Here I thought this thread was started with a legit question. Yep I got suckered into another troll post again. Guess I will never learn. -
I do believe elcetronic calls are not legal to use in NY. But yes I have had some success calling this early in the norther tier for years. The one that gets the most attention is a fawn bawling. If a doe is in the area and receptive to investigating a fawn she will come in. Even this early I have rattled and had does come in. Dont ask why I have no idea other than curiosity I would say. NYantler has said it pretty good about some of the scenarios that can be played out. Those big bucks are sneaky and a decoy is a good way to entice them a little bit more. Just make sure it is scent free of human odors or that will be your last chance at getting him to come into that scenario. Good luck.

I think Doc has the reason spot on. If I recall they made them illegal around the time CWD popped its ugly head up. Then there is the digestive part of feeding or baiting. I have read many articles on how it can and does really mess there digestive sytem up. Especially if you are feeding something like corn into early winter. It fills there stomach, easy access and they will take to it rather happily, then its suddenly gone and there digestive system is messed up and natural browse is hard for them to transition too. I do spend a good amount of time on food plots myself. Im on the fence towards feeling a bit odd about hunting over them. I personally dont. I do not intentionally hunt trails leading to them either. And that is the honest truth. I use them to attract and help hold deer on the property, to add an additional supplement to feed the wildlife in a natural state, to give a little back for all the enjoyment I spend hunting these deer. A long with enhancing my property through pruning wild apple trees, planting other nut bearing trees etc. I do however spend some time sitting along these plots with a camera and taking pictures. Sitting on a food plot with a legal weapon to take a deer, not my cup of tea, to me it takes some of the challenge away and puts the deer in a volnurable state of attraction.
