There is a very large difference in being told what to do and having the option to oblige by landowner rules dont you think? You see if there is no choice in the matter and AR is mandatory that means = no choice. Now if you get permission to hunt on someone elses land that has specific rules= its your choice to decide if you hunt there or not. There is no comparison in your personal debate against another member.

Uhhhh ask your doctor, he might have some better answers than these jokers lol. You would be the first person I ever heard who wears goggles while deer hunting. LMAO

This has to be in the top 10 of the dumbest post I ever read on here. Im not quite sure its the yearlings bucks lacking the brains in that post.

For somewhat of a comparisson here is a 155 8 pt. http://www.louisiana...ils.php?id=2551 with a side by side comparisson.
-
Mid 130 to 140 tops. Closer to the mid 130 I would say. Really hard to ground score especially with the quality of the photo. Buddy is a taxidermist and yet to see a 150 8pt. Thats not to say they are not out there but the 130 8's and up are massive to get those numbers. Very very nice 8 you got there no matter what the heck he scores. And there is only one honest way to get an actuall score and thats to put him in your freezer! Good luck this season hope you tag out on him!

To Tink's or not to Tink's, that is the question....

About 4 seasons ago I decided to really limit myself on scents as I was getting carried away with the amount of money I spent each season on different scents. This is and was the best thing I ever did for me anyways. That season and everyone since have been much more succesful and seeing more deer. I dont mess with mock scrapes, scent trails, hardly ever and even not at all some seasons now. Part of me thinks that laying a scent trail will dipserse your own scent as well. Same as making a mock scrape. Etc. Too many times I have had deer come into a scrape, follow a scent trail etc and at some point it puts them on high alert and they are gone. The amount of times it put deer on alert versus actually effectivly working in my favor was minimal. After taking notice of this I have been a much happier hunter in the woods. I have one brand that has seemed to work better than all the others I use. Its not a name brand off the shelf I have to special order it. I use it very sparingly if I use it at all now. If I do I make sure there is rain in the forcast that night as well. You put some scents out and after spreading your own human scent getting in to the stand and then the human scent you spread getting back out I tend to think that inviting a deer to that area following its nose is going to come across human at some point and now the stand is a bust. Yep they could very well pick up on it anyhow but I think it really gets there noses working and sniffing around to figure out where or what made that new scent in the first place. Its like using a deer call. Once I get busted when using a certain call I wont use it again in that area. To me it would be announcing to the deer your there and he knows its you. I personally feel people get too wrapped up in scents and try to rely on a succesful season based on trying to draw deer in. Do your homework, pattern those deer, take every precaution to control your own human scent and skip relying on aftermarket and trickery to get your deer and Im willing to bet your success rate will go up as well. -
Okay I will take the bait, whats a qual buck?

I figured we where on the same page just not understanding each other. See you have a plan and hunt the area you apply for. For years a couple guys at camp would apply for 7r just because the chances where high and not once did they even attempt to use them. Thats the stuff that irritates me, opportunities lost for other hunters that would of loved to get those tags but maybe got denied and there sits a couple guys with tags burning holes in their pocket. Life is all good, have a great hunting season!
-
I completely understand why one would do that. See you have a plan and a place to use that tag. Its just applying for them and then trying to trade with strangers on the internet in hopes someone has the tag you want that is a tad disturbing to me.
-
I dont do it and wont. If no permits are available where I hunt I dont apply for an area in hopes of trading and taking the chance away for someone who actually hunts that area from getting one themself. Thats my whole point.
-
Why the hell do you guys apply for tags in areas you dont hunt then try to trade them. Sorry but this really tweeks me. Dumbest thing the DEC did was allow you to sign over tags. Why because its turned into a trading game. Now the ones that live and hunt in areas that want and use a DMP are losing opportunities to get selected because Joe Blow just had to have a tag in an area he will never hunt in because the opportunity was medium or high for second chance. I call bullshit on this trading crap.

what is wrong with the youth of today? Well not trying to come off sounding like a sexist here but....................... Mommy went to work outside the home! Now daycare or someone else is raising our kids while the parents are both working outside the home. You can almost pick out the families that the mother or father is a stay at home parent and the kids where both parents work.

The Tyrant Bloomberg Strikes Again
wdswtr replied to Elmo's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Well this might make you feel a tad better. Might I say lol. The numbers are pretty large, I think it was around 120 million dollars in unclaimed bottle tax last year. 80% of that is turned over to the state and the last 20% stays with the bottling company. But her is a bill that passed and it turns the unclaimed funds over to enviormental protection funds. New York State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (I, D, WF-Sag Harbor) announced the Assembly’s recent passage of legislation which will require retained deposits on unredeemed containers to be deposited into the Environmental Protection Fund. This bill, A.7137-A/S.5403-A would provide a net increase in the amount of funds being added to the Environmental Protection Fund as a result of the Returnable Beverage Container Law, commonly known as The Bottle Bill, beginning in fiscal year 2013-14, in phased 25% increments annually. This initiative will ensure that income earned by implementation of a part of the Environmental Conservation Law would be devoted to programs benefiting the environment, consistent with the original stated intent of proponents advocating use of the retained deposits for public purposes. Assemblyman Thiele a co-sponsor of the legislation stated, “New York’s “Bottle Bill” is one of the State’s most successful recycling and anti-litter initiatives. It is only right that the unredeemed bottle deposits are used to support environmental initiatives in the State.” A.7137-A passed the Assembly in a vote of 140-0 -

Why was a youth turkey hunt that has been so succesfull welcomed with open arms yet the youth gun hunt not so much? This is part of what really baffles me a bit. -
I dont think you can use them with a climber, atleast none I have seen. It has to be attacked above the stand in its fixed position for the hunt. So you would literly have to climb the tree, attack the CDS and then climb down to climb back up with your climber lol. I always use a climbers strap when using the climber however. It attaches to my harness at the waste and wraps around the tree and attaches to the other side of the harness. You raise the climbing strap up with each raising of the climbing stand. One thing to be aware of too is that it needs to be always above your waist height. If it is below your waist where wrapped around a tree and you fall it will flip you over backwards.

One can never be too safe. Thanks for sharing your story and hope it enlightens others and gets them into a harness. Hope you heal as best as possible and everyone have a safe, fun and succesful season out there!

Doing your own 100 mile check up on a quad.

Its not a matter of the maintenance caused the problem its a matter of no maintenace at all. I can tell you for certain on my truck I must have records of maintenance or it voids my warranty. States it right on the contract. I see no reason why they could not require you to take it to a dealer or it voids warranty. Actually it only makes sense to me that they would do that to cover their arse from joe blow with a wrench thinking he knows how to service his own stuff. I would think alot are more than capable to do their own service and repairs anyhow but its the ones who think they know what they are doing that would worry me if I was a the one that had to uphold the warranty. I would be reading the warranty contract before I did anything to potentially void it. Better safe than sorry. -

wdswtr replied to Buckstopshere's topic in Deer Hunting
Why because they have to learn how to gut a deer in warmer weather? If thats not part of the experience that what in the hell is. You do remember bow starts Oct1 right? You do know that kids already do this across the united states already right? Like I said before its called using your brain. Be prepared and teach the kids how to do things ahead of time would be a big bonus. You people are making this out to be way more dramatic than it actually is going to be. Again NY is not the first state to do any of this stuff, we are way behind in that category. -

wdswtr replied to Buckstopshere's topic in Deer Hunting
Yeah cause its not like we havent been shooting deer last few days of september and early october for years without issue. Got to use your brain. You know that thing that lies between peoples ears. I think every excuse possible has been brought up and ranted about. Guess what NY we arent the first state to try this with great success and wont be the last. The way some think is unreal. How many times can one person say the same thing over and over and over and still be so stuck in their own mind that there way is the only way strikes me quite odd. It has been said a hundred times already, this is a step towards creating interest to a younger generation. While some of you can sit there and bash away at the DEC let me ask you this. What the hell have you done aside from sitting on a forum complaining about a youth hunt all the while complaining about the early heat and probably not even going to be in the woods in fear of some stupid bugs and a little sweat. Sad what a bunch of whiners.
