Well its sort of pretty cool to a point. Cool having such resources all around you to enjoy. Not so cool picking up all the beer cans, Mcdonalds wrappers and all the other garbage that gets thrown out the windows that lands on the lawn and only appears during the salmon season. Really bums me out, and then filling a garbage bag full of crap along the banks everytime I go fishing too. Yes river has been low all summer. Its running a bit more respectable at the moment. Long gone are the days of good flow during the fall due to Kyak and rafting water releases during the summer. They manage to pratically drain the Upper reservior every summer. Really killed the rainbow trout population from lack of oxygen and warmer water temps up there. My favorite past time was always fishing the east branch above redfield for some real nice rainbows. Havent caught or seen one in 5 years now. Its a shame and just for day trips where these Kyakers dont even stay overnight or spend money up here.

Sorry but it still baffles me how you can mistake a fawn for an adult deer. I can think of very little occasions if any have I seen spotted fawns come bow season OCT1 in the north country at home. Even the ones on my trail cams now have lost there spots already. Body size and length of face is a dead giveaway. I shot a fawn once, a little button buck with my bow and it was the first deer I taken with a bow about 20 years ago. Last one that ever died from my doings. Short face, small body, short tail,short neck.

Ahh the Salmon river. I actually live on it. Salmon run is not all that great at this point. First small run we had alot of the salmon died from lack of oxygen once they hit the river towards Pulaski. Had a great rain yesterday so should help out a bit. I salmon fish in waits of opening bow and then Im done. Steelhead is definately the best time on the river. Especially after New Years in the heart of the winter when the fair weather guys all go home. We have had banner steelhead runs for atleast 5 years in a row. Unreal fishing since the 1 fish rule was put in place. Just check the regulations as they seem to change a bit every year.

Apparently I take it there is more than one Sterling Forest? Im thinking of Sterling by lake ontario west of Oswego. Around the famous Sterling Renasance Festival. I know there isnt any bear there.

I can tell you I was all excited and pumped up when I bought my last shotgun quite a few years back. Winchester model ? dont remember but they called it a sabot barrel. Fancy terms back then for a rifled barrel. I was impressed with the way it shot compared to my smoothbore at 150 yard shots. Then after they became more popular in a very short period of time the price of sabot slugs grew so high it cost more than a dollar to pull the trigger. Screw that the smoothbore was effective for many many years and slugs are a heck of alot cheaper. Crazy the cost of ammo these days.

Was it actually taken out of rifle or was rifle pushed back a week later? Trust me Im not preaching poor archery guys. I have said it before Im not feeling my preference is an elite form of hunting by any means. I prefer bow but I still love sporting a rifle or ML. I dont frown upon others choice of preference and feel pretty good that we have such choices and not limited to what someone else just wants us to use. I also fail to see the big contraversy with Xbows during archery either. What I do find extremely humorous is thread after thread you hear about people saying theres no place to hunt even with millions and millions of acres of state hunting land in NY, so if hunters have eaten up all the private land and posted it off to other hunters why the hell do we hear so much complaining about Xbows or ML in with Bow or most any other rant on such topics. Seems to me if they are all on private land its their choice to choose if they want to use a bow or xbow on there land, choice of taking the Bow or ML. Doesnt make much sense to me since no one seems to hunt state land since NY seems to not have any to hunt on. lol

Suprised no one mentioned being the same time as bear hunters as well. This is one good thing about having your own private property and probably just one more reason why so many have moved in this direction and posted their land as well. I will be on my own land and although ML wont be on my land while Im bowhunting it does lead to some fustration as to why our rifle season is so long and they feel the need to incorporate ML with Bow season after season. Why it is the way it is makes no sense. Why not give a week to ML out of Rifle season?
